13. How are pets listed on the PetRescue platform?

What last year's report found
The 2025 report found that fewer member organisations were entering listings by hand, and more were using shelter management software connected to PetRescue, saving time and effort.
What happened this year
Organisations can add listings to PetRescue in three ways:
- PetRescue Web App: the organisation types each listing into PetRescue's website by hand.
- API: an API (application programming interface) is a connection that lets an organisation's own software send listing information straight to PetRescue, without retyping it.
- Sheltermate: shelter management software used by some organisations to keep their animal records, which can send listings to PetRescue automatically.
More Rescues are connecting their own systems directly to PetRescue. Listings added through an API rose 27%, from 4,451 to 5,672, and the number of Rescues using an API rose from 32 to 46.
Every Vet Clinic listing was still entered by hand through the PetRescue Web App.
Overall, most organisations still enter listings by hand: 88.7% of members who listed animals used manual entry, almost unchanged from 88.3%.
