Home2Home Program
Launched in 2020, the Home2Home program was created to address the urgent need for a safe and supportive alternative to the overwhelmed rescue system. It empowers pet owners to safely rehome their beloved companions with one-on-one compassionate and non-judgemental guidance and support, ensuring pets find new homes without entering the rescue system.
To date, Home2Home has successfully kept over 1,075* pets out of the rescue system, thanks to the one-on-one support our team provides to pet owners during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. This vital assistance not only ensures the well-being of the pets but also alleviates the emotional burden on families who want the best for their loved companions.
With so many pets facing an uncertain future in council facilities, Home2Home placements create opportunities to keep pets out of the system.
With an alarming estimate of 100,000* pets being killed annually in Australian council facilities, it’s critical that we, as a pet-loving community, take action. The Home2Home program offers a lifeline to pet owners, enabling them to make empowered choices that keep their pets safe, either through a supported rehoming or by finding solutions that allow pets to remain with their families.
Many of the pet owners who reach out to us do not want to give up their pets but are unaware of any other options. When offered the right support, they can make decisions that not only improve their pets' lives but also strengthen the bond between families. By keeping pets with their families, Home2Home helps free up space in shelters and rescues so that they can focus on helping the most at-risk and vulnerable animals in need of urgent care.
Most Common Reasons for Rehoming
The reasons for rehoming pets through the Home2Home program often stem from circumstances beyond the pet guardian's control. (01 July 2023 - 31 June 2024)
Through investment in scalability, tech features and owner support, the Home2Home program can continue to keep pets safe, reduce the burden on our already stretched rescue system, and create lasting positive change for both families and animals. Together, we can continue to build a stronger, more compassionate community for pets and people alike.
