To help provide greater clarity and support for the important work you do, we've made a number of updates to PetRescue's Membership Code and Pet Listing Rules.
These changes have been thoughtfully developed to reflect the evolving needs of the animal welfare sector and to make the Code and Rules easier to understand, navigate and apply in day-to-day practice.
Here's a summary of what's changed
📖 Easier to Read & Navigate
Updates throughout both the Code and Rules improve readability and make it easier to find the information you need, when you need it.
✅ Required vs. Encouraged — Now Clearly Marked
Sections now clearly distinguish between requirements and best-practice recommendations, making it easier to understand your obligations and identify opportunities to strengthen your practices.
🏢 Relevant to All Member Types
Language and scope have been updated to ensure the Code and Rules are relevant to all member types.
🌱 Supporting Preventative Programs & Alternative Adoption Pathways
As more organisations participate in preventative programs and supported adoption pathways, including owner-assisted adoption, the Code and Rules have been updated to better reflect and accommodate these approaches.
🐱🐶 Clearer Requirements for Cats & Dogs
Requirements relating to cats and dogs have been clarified, bringing together both state-specific requirements and PetRescue platform requirements to provide greater consistency and certainty.
🔒 New Section: Handling Adopter Information & Data
A dedicated section has been added to provide clearer guidance on the appropriate handling of adopter information and data.
⚖️ Expanded: Compliance with Laws & Regulations
Guidance relating to compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations has been expanded. This now extends beyond organisational compliance to include individuals acting on behalf of, or associated with, member organisations.
💚 Expanded: Post-Adoption Support
Additional guidance has been included around return and refund policies to help support consistent and transparent conversations with adopters.
🌟 New Section: PetRescue Support Services & Programs
A new section to highlight the support services and programs that members automatically have access to as part of their membership. This also includes third-party affiliate programs, which are all designed to support the amazing work you do.
