A Year 7 English class at Australian Christian College Darling Downs in Western Australia spent a semester not just learning about positive pet ownership, but creating fun, imaginative posters to help real pets find loving homes! Their teacher, Bonita Barham, shared the journey her students took.
“My Year 7 English class took a semester to discover as much as we could about pet ownership,” she explained. The students explored scientific breeds and their categories, discovered why pets are so important for our social and emotional growth.
To bring their learning to life, students visited PetRescue.com.au to find pets looking for loving homes, then created fun, visual posters about them. “Authentic audiences always propel students' learning, and so the task was born. Persuasive language is one of our 'big rocks' in our English curriculum. So it was a 'no-brainer' to include as many of these language techniques as possible with the posters, as they provided the perfect vehicle to exercise these language devices.” says Bonita.
The result? A delightful collection of posters bursting with creativity, knowledge, and heart, each one designed to give homeless pets a boost and help them find loving homes.
Here are some of the pawesome posters they created!
