A huge congratulations to Maxi and Maple, our August Happy Tail winners, thanks to Pet Circle.

Meet Maple
A little cat who might only weigh a few kilos, but she's been doing some seriously heavy lifting in Maxi's life. This gorgeous girl, found on PetRescue through Healing Angels Animal Rescue, is PetRescue's August Story of the Month winner, and it's easy to see why.
A loss, and then a little bit of light
Maxi had recently farewelled her much-loved cat when Maple came strutting into her life (bounding felt too undignified for a cat with this much main character energy). Maxi wasn't looking for a replacement. She was looking for connection, and a very specific kind of companion who'd be happy to keep her company while she worked from home. Browsing PetRescue, the second she spotted Maple, that was that.
"I fell in love right away."
Grief and grins, side by side
In Maxi's words, Maple is "very special."
"If I am in the shower she taps through the glass to say hello. She somersaults and chases her tail so often, she really makes me laugh, and Maple gives me the best cuddles as well."
Chatty, cuddly and just a little bit chaotic, Maple has pawed her way into bedtime cuddles, wand toy wrestling matches and Maxi's heart. Ask her to sum up life with Maple in one word, and she doesn't hesitate: laughter.
"She is helping me grieve that loss without being too lonely."

People don't always show what they're feeling. Someone can seem perfectly fine on the surface and still be having a difficult time. Sometimes, a simple "how are you going?" can open the door to a conversation and let someone know they're not alone.
For Maxi, Maple's little taps on the shower glass, silly somersaults and daily cuddles have brought connection and laughter during a time of grief.
Grief Australia describes grief as a natural response to loss, one that can affect many parts of our lives, from our thoughts and behaviour to our physical wellbeing. Everyone experiences grief differently, but having connection and companionship around us can make difficult times feel a little less lonely.
And sometimes, that connection has four paws, a very big personality and a habit of tapping on the shower glass.
