If you've sent an enquiry about a pet on PetRescue, your message has been sent directly to the rescue organisation, shelter or council caring for that pet. PetRescue doesn't process adoption applications on their behalf.
Why responses can take time
Most PetRescue member organisations are small, volunteer-run teams caring for pets while also managing enquiries, foster care, vet appointments and adoptions.
Popular pets can receive dozens or even hundreds of enquiries, so rescue teams take time to carefully review applications and find the best match for each pet.
How long should I wait?
We recommend waiting 10 days for the rescue organisation to respond to your enquiry.
What should I do if I haven't heard back?
- After 10 days without a reply, you can send the organisation a friendly follow-up.
- If two weeks have passed and you still haven't heard back, PetRescue's support pathway is the next step. See when and how to follow up on your enquiry.
- PetRescue can help you follow up, but the organisation handling the listing makes the adoption decision.
