Why can’t I find the rescue organisation I’m looking for?
Since 2004, PetRescue has worked with and supported over 2,000 rescue and rehoming organisations, including shelters, vets and council facilities across Australia.
The number of active member rescue organisations who lean on PetRescue’s free programs and services to help the pets in their care changes regularly for a variety of reasons.
Why can’t I find the rescue organisation I’m looking for?
If the rescue organisations, shelters, vets or council facility you're searching for isn’t listed in the rescue directory, it could be because:
-
There’s a typo: Sometimes, it’s as simple as a typo! For example, searching for "Dog Adoptions" instead of "Dog Adoption" or "Cats & Dogs" versus "Cats and Dogs" can make a difference. Double-check your spelling to ensure you're using the exact name.
-
They’re taking a break: Some groups may put their PetRescue profile on hold temporarily. Rescue work can be demanding and sometimes groups take a break from listing their pets. If this is the case, we recommend checking back later or visiting the group’s website or social media pages to get in touch with them directly.
-
They’re new to PetRescue: Newly approved groups may not appear in our directory until they’ve listed pets for adoption. If a group has recently joined us, they’ll be up soon, but it may take a little time before they become visible.
-
Code of Ethics compliance: In some cases, a group may no longer be listed because they’ve not adhered to PetRescue’s Membership Code or community guidelines. If this happens, their account may be suspended or removed from our directory.
-
They’re not a PetRescue member: Some organisations around the country may not know about PetRescue's free programs and support to advertise and find homes for the pets in their care, or they may have been unsuccessful in the verification assessment stage which PetRescue undertakes to ensure professionalism, reputability and legitimacy of the organisation before approving new groups. Other reasons may include not needing to use PetRescue's free services as they are able to successfully find homes for pets in their care.
At PetRescue, we take the legitimacy of our member organisations and private rehomers in the Home2Home Program very seriously. We work with our members evto ensure PetRescue remains a safe place for people to find and adopt pets.
It’s crucial for us to ensure that all pets that are listed for adoption on PetRescue are done so by individuals and groups who are committed to a Membership Code, Pet Listing Rules and uphold a standard of care for not only pets but also the people they interact with and safety for those who work in and volunteer within their organisations.
