Some love stories travel a little further than others.
For Walter and Jinx, a bonded pair who have been waiting patiently for over two years, finding love meant crossing the country, from Sydney, NSW, to Mt Barker, WA. And once again, this journey proves that when a pet-loving community comes together, distance is no barrier to love.
Walter and Jinx needed to find a home together. Their bond is deep, and keeping them side-by-side was always non-negotiable. Thanks to Home2Home, PetRescue partners, and an incredible group of humans who stepped in at every stage, these two settled into a loving new home just in time for Christmas. 💚

Love, literally, in the air.
Getting Walter and Jinx across almost 4,000 kilometres took careful planning, collaboration and a whole lot of heart.
Their journey began in Sydney, where they boarded a Virgin Airlines flight to Perth thanks to our amazing partners-in-flight at Jetpets, covering an impressive 3,284 km. Jetpets’ support through PetRescue’s Pet Transport program helps ensure vulnerable pets can access timely care and new homes, even when that means flying them across the country.

From Perth, the love kept rolling. Jetpets delivered Walter and Jinx to Bella (from the PetRescue team), where they were welcomed for a calm overnight stay at her home. Giving them the chance to rest, decompress and feel safe after their big flight. The next day, they were handed over to Pats (PetRescue’s CEO), who continued the journey by road, travelling a further 366 km to Mt Barker.
All up, nearly 4,000 kilometres, united by kindness, teamwork and a shared belief that every pet deserves the chance to find love.

A community effort, every step of the way.
Behind the scenes, so many people played a role in making this journey as low-stress and comfortable as possible.
Bella and Bryony (Home2Home) worked tirelessly to coordinate logistics, support the journey, and ensure Walter and Jinx were set up for success at every stage. From preparing calming environments and transport tips to sharing practical resources to support settling in.
To make the journey a little more comfortable, Pet Circle also chipped in with a $100 comfort pack voucher for Walter and Jinx.
This is what PetRescue does best: connecting people, partners and communities to help pets find love, no matter the distance.
Settling in, together.
Now safely home in Mt Barker, Walter and Jinx are beginning to settle into life with their new human, Anna.
“I am happy to report Jinx and Walter have come out of their shells and are happy exploring the house and have their favourite spots to sleep, including my bed at night! Purring away, they are sharing new insights into their personalities, such as the cute way Walter uses his claws and paws to show this affection and Jinx zooms to your lap as soon as you sit down. Great cats!”
More than a journey.
Walter and Jinx’s story is a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when the community comes together.
PetRescue doesn’t do this alone. Outcomes like this are made possible thanks to the generosity of partners like Jetpets, the care and commitment of our teams and pet loving community.
As part of our partnership with Jetpets, we’re doing everything we can to ensure that pets never miss out on the opportunity to find love, even if it means taking to the skies.
