But when a Melbourne-based rescue group put Jake up for adoption on the PetRescue website, he finally found his happy place with Wendy and her three-legged chi x pug, Sophie.
“I’d been searching on PetRescue during my lunch hour (still do!) when I found Jake. I called to arrange a meeting that night and when I arrived at his foster carer’s home, I saw his cheeky face plastered against the window. I loved him from that first moment, but I had Sofie to consider.
“After her accident, Sofie didn’t take too well to new dogs. But within seconds of meeting Jake at our own home, they were doing laps around the yard and having a ball! I’m sure her foster carer thought I was telling porkies when I said ‘She never does that, she must really like him’. Fortunately, we were able to trial Jake and he’s been an angel.
“He hasn’t done any of the naughty things he did in his other homes. I honestly believe he just hadn’t found his right match, until now.
“The night he arrived, I asked myself, ‘I wonder if I will ever love him as much as Sofie?’ I LOVE that little man SO MUCH. He is my perfect little man, absolutely perfect.”
