Sharon’s Christmas wish for pets like Ouzo
What’s better than one amazing pet? Five, of course! Meet sweet big boy Ouzo, adopted by Sharon and her family from Ballarat Animal Shelter via PetRescue.
Sharon’s wish for Christmas is that every single homeless pet has a warm, loving and happy home, just like Ouzo does now.
In the lead up to Christmas, right now, across Australia, there are 3,813 pets on PetRescue needing a home and they are reliant on you to help make their simple wish come true.
Can you help bring joy for a homeless pet like Ouzo by making a gift in time for Christmas?
Sharon and her family were ready to add to their amazing blended pet family of one dog, one cat and two cockatiels when she started browsing PetRescue for another doggo friend to add to the mix. The family already had a large dog (Remmi) and were searching for another of a similar size who would also be friendly and willing to share the love with another dog and a kitty. Most importantly, the new family member had to be loving and sweet!
Hopping onto PetRescue to begin their search, the family soon came across sweet big boy Ouzo’s profile. They quickly organised a trip to the shelter so Remmi and Ouzo could meet. It was love at first sight for Sharon, and Ouzo warmed up to the family in less than an hour, being super gentle with Remmi.
Sharon recalls being brought to tears when she saw the joy on Ouzo’s face when he first came home and discovered all his new toys one by one! He was a little restless on his first night, so Sharon slept with him on the couch to help him through the transition.
Best friends Remmi and Ouzo
Previously coming to the shelter as a stray, Ouzo was very curious about his new surroundings and slightly wary of his new humans at first. Sharon’s heart swelled with love for him the very first time he came up to her and nudged her hand for a pat! After about a week, Ouzo slept through the night for the first time, and Sharon believes that was when he knew he was home.
Ouzo has now been with the family for more than a year, and is no longer wary and aloof and instead very loving and gentle. ‘’He can be cheeky, talking back when he’s told ‘no’!’’, says Sharon. He loves to join Remmi in greeting the family when they arrive home each day. He goes nuts over all his toys, grabbing whatever he can get his paws on first and asking his humans to play. Not content to choose just one toy at a time, he likes to carry around a couple of toys in his mouth all at once!
Sharon says that her family’s Christmas wish for homeless pets would be
‘’For them to find a forever home where they can get all the love they deserve and enable them to give back their unconditional love that is inside each and every one of them.’’
Could you make a Christmas gift today? One that will give homeless pets the best chance possible to find that joy and share the love that comes with having your own family?
Your gift, no matter what size, makes a difference. It gives pets like Ouzo the best chance possible to have a wish come true.
When reflecting on the adoption experience Sharon said,
‘’Adopting a pet is the single most rewarding experience and I cannot recommend it enough. Giving a pet all the care and love they deserve cannot be understated.’’
