Many folks can relate to the pandemic's toll on their mental health. And we can all agree that it's our pets that have brought joy during this time.
Joanne and her husband are based in Sydney and had both grown up with cats and dogs. They decided to welcome both a kitty (Myer) and a pup (Billie) into their family while they were in lockdown and working from home. Being an active couple who love hiking, going to the beach and riding their bikes, they've struggled with not being able to be out and about during the pandemic.
They began their search on PetRescue, and soon found little Myer’s profile via The Cat Sanctuary, with the adorable description ‘long haired love bug’! 😍
Joanne says her first impression of Myer was that ‘’she looked so sad and fragile’’, she says ‘’my heart really sunk and I knew that I could give her all the love she needs, so I showed her to my husband, and my husband said yes right away!’’
Like many kitties when they’re settling into a new home, Myer was very timid and kept to herself for the first couple of weeks she was with her new family. It wasn’t too long though before she was always by the couple’s side, on the couch, at the dining table and even snuggled up in the middle of the bed with them every night. Joanne now describes Myer as being the boss of the house!
Myer now loves hanging out with the couple and their new pup Billie and adores being wherever her family is. She likes to act as an alarm clock for her humans, meowing at them until they wake up! During the day, Myer will keep them company in their office as they work, peeking out the window at the birds and cars going by (what a life!). She’s also very patient with little pup Billie, and even watches over him while he snoozes.
Joanne says that the pets have now become the number one priority for the couple, starting their day by feeding, cuddling and chatting to them and considering their needs first. She says that having the pets has made the couple more responsible and turned them into morning people as they are up early every day wanting to play!
When asked about how Myer has changed their family, Joanne says that she and her husband have become more patient and understanding. Having Myer and Billie has made the couple realise how much love they have to give and how much they enjoy making sure their pets are well taken care of.
