“I'd like to adopt a cat that you've had listed for the longest time - one no one wants. I'm fine with weirdness, disability and undesirable traits,” said the best adopter, ever!
This amazing lady named Mich got in touch with us back in June 2017, via our online helpdesk info@petrescue.org.au. The story that unfolded via email beautifully illustrates the positive difference our helpdesk team makes by responding to more than 175 enquiries every week from adopters, rescue groups and pet owners in need of advice and assistance...

I live in Cairns, on my own, in a small house. I'd like to adopt a cat that will be an indoor cat. ALL your cat pics and bios make me madly clucky. To do the 'rescue' thing right, I'd like to adopt a cat that you've had listed for the longest time - one no one wants. I'm fine with weirdness, disability and undesirable traits. I am ready for a large paw-print on my forehead and to be 'staff' to a cat. You choose for me, and we'll make it good.
Thanks much, Mich

Hi Mich,
Thanks for your email, and for your interest in adopting a rescue pet. I have to tell you - this email made our weekend here are PetRescue! You are absolutely wonderful, and I wish there were more with souls like yours in the world!
Please see below some suggestions of cats who I can see have either been waiting a little while for their forever homes, or don't necessarily have a profile which others would jump at.
It may also be worth reaching out to these rescue groups for a potential fit, as they could have other cats available which aren't listed online with us. When enquiring, one tip I could provide to you is to detail information about yourself, your home, your lifestyle and the future life of your new forever feline to paint the clearest possible picture for the rescue group to know that you're the best match similar to your brief to us - which was brilliant! :)
You can also set up email alerts via PetRescue to notify you when a pet is listed that matches your search criteria. I hope this helps! Please let me know if there is anything else we could assist with, and thank you again. Best of luck with the search for your new furry family member!

Hi Laurel,
I now live with a gorgeous furry grey man! Blue has been home since 20th June and we're going well. We chat a lot, cope with each others' nuttiness and have heaps of cuddles and smooches. My house is now a home!
Thank you, Mich

Hi Laurel,
My Blue man (aka La Chat Bleu) and I are tracking well, although we still have discussions about who is the actual boss! We chat heaps (I talk, he chirrs) and we cope with each other's schedules quite well - my long care worker shifts and his 'party time' modes at 2am.
He’s successfully converting non-cat-people into his fans, "He's quite a nice guy,” I often hear my friends say. However, he has ruined a couch (ignoring his three scratching posts) and has adopted my runners as his 'cuddle-things' (ignoring all the exy toys)!
He recently had an op for an abcess and got a drain. The whole family was really worried about him, but he healed with his attitude intact, and is now healthy and enjoying 'outside time' in his very own cat-netted catio, where he verbally threatens the birdlife.
Kudos to you and all your affiliates, you've made us both happy!
All the very best to you and your furries,
Mich & Blue x
