This lovely tale of love and friendship began when a little male tabby appeared on Deborah’s doorstep one evening. After making every effort to find who he belonged to and to no avail, she decided to make him a permanent member of the family.
“We named him Eli, and after a few weeks we adopted a feline playmate for him through Second Chance Animal Rescue,” says Deborah. “That's when our beautiful Sophie found her forever home.”
Unfortunately for Deborah and Sophie, their time spent with Eli was about to be cut tragically short. “After three months of the most beautiful friendship two kittens could possibly share, we lost Eli to a cruel disease called Feline Peritonitis,” says Deborah.
“This left us and Sophie feeling very lost and heart broken. Dealing with our grief was not easy, but after a couple of weeks we decided to honour Eli's memory by giving another little feline friend a home.”
Determined to continue her family's support of rescue groups, Deborah got in contact with the Victorian Dog Rescue Group through PetRescue, and found a beautiful jet-black cat with shining yellow eyes called Abby.
“Both Sophie and Abby now share a wonderful friendship with one another and our super-sweet eight-year-old Jack Russell, Maggie.
“Our pets are not just dogs and cats to me and my family, they are family. Beautiful, innocent little lives needing nothing more than basic care, kindness, compassion, love, humanity and a place to call home. They always give unconditional love to us, the least we can do is love them back and give them a chance at life.”
Well said, Deborah, we couldn’t agree more. Congratulations on providing a warm home and heart for all your pets and continuing to support our rescue groups.
