Easy ways to help your local rescue group this Christmas
Buzz from CKs Paws (Paws Are Worth Saving) Inc.
Looking for ways to help pets this Christmas?
The holidays are a great time to give back to the community and create happiness for everyone, including rescue pets who might not have the warmth of a cosy loving home this season.
Your local animal shelters and rescue organisations work hard to rehome pets all year round, and you can help them catch a break in just a few simple ways!
๐ถ Become an adoption ambassador! Find a pet profile on PetRescue.com.au and share to your network of pet lovers via your social media channels, or print their poster and pop them up around town! Let’s find them a home for Christmas!
๐ Sign up to foster over the holidays and help save a life (or a few). Because even if you can only foster for a week or two while you’re on leave for the holidays, it helps long term carers have a break themselves.
๐ถ๐ผโ๏ธGot some spare time on your break? Volunteer at your local shelter ~ you could help walk the dogs, play with the cats, or provide some help with other duties. You’ll bring some cheer to homeless animals and your simple act of kindness will help lighten the physical and mental load for shelter workers and volunteers.
๐พ If you’re ready to welcome a pet into your life, Christmas might just be the best time to adopt a new pet. Being home for the holidays allows for more quality time to help your pet settle in and create wonderful summer memories.
๐ Stuck for that Secret Santa gift for the person in the office you’ve hardly met, or that family member who has everything? Donate to a local rescue organisation on their behalf. It’ll help spread awareness, sprinkle some happy feels and provide much-needed support to your chosen rescue organisation.
๐When it comes to adding gifts to your own Christmas wishlist, ask your friends and family to give charity donations in lieu of presents.
๐ Swap out boring ol’ Xmas cards with an adoption poster instead! You might just inspire someone to save a life this Christmas. You can do this by heading to a pet’s profile and clicking the ‘Adoption poster’ icon which is just above the enquiry button.
๐ Remind your family/friends/workplace/business to give back this holiday season by gifting your local rescue organisation some supplies, treats or toys for the pets in care.
๐ป As part of the office Christmas party, you could donate the cost of a round of drinks to your local rescue organisation. That shout could mean that the rescue pets in their care get to enjoy a Christmas feast of their own!
๐ฆด Over-stuff your pantry every Christmas? You can allocate some of your food budget towards buying pet food for your local rescue group.
๐ฉ๐ซ Become a mentor. Are you a finance wizard? Or a marketing guru? Host a free workshop for rescue workers in your community and pass on your brains! Learning new skills can help rescues manage themselves more efficiently and expand operations to help more pets in need.
๐ Reach out to vollies and employees working at local rescue groups and thank them for all that they do for rescue pets! You can promote their amazing work on social media, or even give back through gift vouchers for basic needs.
