Desexing donations straight to your rescue
Desexing donations straight to your rescue
The responses to our 2017 Members Survey made it clear that funding is a huge issue for rescue. We listened, and we want to help increase funding options available to rescue groups so that you can save more lives.
We’ve taken the first steps towards creating a sustainable source of funding for rescue groups in Australia. We’re fundraising to create a secure online platform that will allow you (each rescue group) to use your individual pet profile listings as a way of attracting direct donations.
As we currently see 20,000 unique visitors to the PetRescue website every day - there’s huge potential for donations. This solution will give these 20,000+ visitors every day the opportunity to donate directly to your group, by adding a “Donate to desex” button to every active pet listing on the PetRescue website.
In the same way, some organisations provide 'sponsor a pet' opportunities, the new “desex button” and supporting donation platform will allow anyone viewing a pet online to donate with a directed contribution to a rescue group to help cover the pet’s vet costs.
The desex button will be a permanent feature on the PetRescue website, with the potential to generate direct donations for your rescue all year round - helping you to recoup the cost of vet work.
It’s a massive piece of development work to make sure the new online donation system works effectively and securely, and we've scheduled the launch of the direct donation functionality for Spring 2018.
There are hundreds of hours of planning and web development to do behind the scenes to make it all work effectively and securely. We know that if we engaged external resources, the development work is likely to cost well in excess of $50,000, but we’ll be doing the vast majority of development work in house to keep costs to a minimum.
We’re keen to get the ball(s) rolling asap. That’s why our Christmas 2017 fundraising drive - Desexmas - will help us get started on this long-term development project.
Why don’t we just give the 2017 Desexmas fundraising dollars straight to rescue members, right now?
So far we’ve raised $25,000 - to distribute this to rescue members now would work out to a one-off payment of about $25.60 for each rescue group. That won’t even cover one pet’s desexing!
Instead, we’re building a long-term, sustainable source of funding that will give ongoing funding opportunities to every single rescue group member, regardless of their size, or whether or not they have their own website.
If you want to see how we’re communicating this fundraising drive to our public supporters, check out one of our latest emails ‘Your Kindness will Keep on Giving’ and the information for donors on our donate page which states:
“Your donation won’t pay for desexing a pet today, instead it will give THOUSANDS of pet-loving Australians the means to donate directly to thousands of pets every year.”
We know desexing is serious business, but given it’s the silly season we decided to have some fun with the campaign.
