Baby Chino fills an empty nest with love
“Although I couldn’t bear the thought of loving and losing another dog,” says Claudia. “When my daughter visited with her two beautiful rescue dogs, I felt that tug on the heart and wanted to adopt.”
A few hours searching on the PetRescue website brought Claudia to Chino’s profile.
“I’d looked at lots of dogs, but I took one look at Chino’s photo and thought ‘this is it’ - the feeling was just there - I can’t explain it,” laughs Claudia.
After contacting SAFE Perth and arranging to meet Chino and his foster mum Letitia, Claudia’s first instinct was right. “Chino and I connected. He gave me a kiss, and I could feel that he was very loved.”
“I like a big dog with a big personality, and Chino fits that perfectly,” says Claudia. “He’s very clever and picks things up quickly. My first dog was a Labrador x German Shepherd, and Chino’s even smarter than he was!
“He talks to me. He asks for his breakfast and his morning walk. He barks once when he wants to go outside, or come in. And he talks when he wants me to play. He’s great company for me - my perfect match.”
We first met Chino and his foster family in May. He wasn’t quite a year old, and still an energetic teenager. But he was very keen to please, quickly learned the boundaries and learned to ask for what he wanted.
Six months later and he’s got everything he asked for - a forever home. The hot pink lipstick kiss laid on Chino’s cheek the day we met Claudia for the interview said it all!
