A Million Adoptions. Countless Lives Changed.
Over the last two decades, PetRescue has helped connect one million rescue pets with loving new homes. This milestone has been made possible by a national community of rescue organisations, councils, vets, pet lovers, partners, sponsors, and donors - all united by the vision of a future where every pet is safe, respected, and loved.
As we celebrate 20 years of impact, we’re looking forward to a future where fewer pets need to be rescued at all.

The Next Chapter: There’s No Place Like Home
The idea that there’s a home for every pet has guided us from the very beginning. Today, that vision is evolving into a home for every pet that needs one, and a system that keeps more pets safely in the homes they already have.
PetRescue’s next chapter is focused on prevention and reunification - shifting the sector from reactive rescue to proactive prevention. While keeping pet adoption as a mainstream and celebrated option remains a crucial part of our work, evolving toward a more holistic approach that places equal value on prevention and reunification is vital to our mission. By supporting early intervention, community collaboration, and programs that help keep pets and people together, we can stop pets from entering the system in the first place.
Measuring Impact Beyond Adoptions
When PetRescue.com.au launched in 2004, our co-founders JB and Vix didn’t know if it would have an impact, but they believed that if they could help save just one pet’s life, it would all be worth it.
They built a platform that made pets seen and valued for who they are, not discarded as unwanted.
Now, two decades on, we’re building on that same belief - extending it to the people who love them. By helping pet guardians be seen and supported as the loving homes they provide, we can keep families together and pets where they belong - at home.
Reaching one million adoptions is just the beginning. The next measure of success will be the number of pets who never need to enter the system, and the families who stay whole because of it.
Together, we’re reimagining the future of animal welfare in Australia: a future where every pet is safe, respected, and loved.
