​​Lyla's Journey to Tegan's Heart!

Sometimes, the pet you weren't looking for ends up being the one that changes your life – and that's exactly what happened when Tegan found Lyla on PetRescue.

Tegan's home is a bustling one, filled with love and laughter from her parents, partner, and a delightful mix of pets, including her guide dog Loui and two cats, Dusky and Minx. 

When Tegan and Cam first considered adding a dog to their family, they initially thought about adopting from a breeder. However, everything changed when Tegan stumbled upon Lyla’s profile on PetRescue. “I fell in love with her big pointy ears and ridiculously long legs,” Tegan recalls. “I knew I had to be the one to adopt her.”

Tegan also appreciated the accessibility of PetRescue’s platform, which allowed her to filter results for dogs that matched her criteria while accommodating her vision impairment. 

After contemplating for almost two months, Tegan submitted her adoption application, and soon after, she received the news she had been eagerly awaiting. When it was time to pick Lyla up from the airport—flown in from Karratha—Tegan was met with a timid pup. “We wrapped her in a blanket and brought her home, where she immediately fit in with Loui,” Tegan explains.

Lyla's transformation has been nothing short of remarkable. “My highlight has definitely been watching her grow from a terrified dog … to such a confident playful puppy … She has now stopped cowering … and has become so much more playful and confident, always following us around the house and keen for any adventure.” Tegan shares.

The bond between Tegan, Cam, and their pets has flourished since Lyla’s arrival. “Adopting her has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Tegan reflects. “She has not only brought more happiness into my own life, but has also enriched the lives of my entire family, including our other dogs.”

One of Tegan’s favourite moments is cuddling Lyla in her lap at night. “It makes her feel safe ... she exudes warmth that’s so comforting. It’s hard to articulate how special it is to provide a loving home to a dog who has experienced so much change.”

With every chase of her pink frisbee in the yard or cuddle under the blankets, Lyla has shown Tegan that love knows no boundaries. “She’s taught me the true meaning of unconditional love,” Tegan says. “Even though things may not turn out the way you expect, the way they do turn out can be even better than initially thought.”

In just a short time, Lyla has captured the hearts of everyone around her, proving that love and a little patience can help a scared pup find her place in the world. With Tegan and Cam’s loving care, Lyla is well on her way to a bright future filled with adventures, snuggles, and endless play.
