Over 70% of PetRescue members are small independent rescue groups who rely on a network of dedicated foster carers to look after rescue pets in their own homes. For the vast majority of these groups, the PetRescue website is the only way they are able to advertise their pets for foster or adoption. Many shelters also rely on foster carers to provide specialist care for pets who are sick, recovering from surgery, unweaned or have special needs. And, thanks to your support, we’re able to provide these vital services and programs for free.
Foster listings
Increasing the life-saving capacity of all rescue groups, shelters and pounds
All our member rescue groups, shelters and pounds are able to advertise for foster carers for free by simply selecting the option to add ‘Foster Care Needed’ to a pet’s listing. Today, Petrescue.com.au is Australia’s largest searchable database of pets that’s free to access for all volunteer foster carers.
Workplace Pet Foster program
Helping businesses and homeless pets in need
This innovative program transforms workplaces and taps into a unique source of foster care support for rescue groups, shelters and pounds across Australia. Studies and polls agree that a pet-friendly workplace can decrease stress, improve morale and productivity, reduce absenteeism and increase staff retention rates. What’s more, every foster pet that enters a workplace gets a highly dedicated public relations team to champion their cause. And with a whole business behind them, every workplace foster pet will have the very best chance of finding a new family.
Foster care helpdesk
Connecting foster volunteers with pets in need
The PetRescue helpdesk receives regular enquiries to info@petrescue.org.au from pet-loving Australians who would like to know more about pet fostering. We help them understand how easy it is to become a foster carer, and assist them in finding a local rescue group, shelter or pound in need of foster support.
Foster awareness
Helping more Australians realise their life-saving powers
Not everyone knows what foster care is, and not many people realise how easy it is to become a volunteer foster carer. By leveraging our own reach, as well as sponsorships and partnerships, we’re able to spread the word to millions of Australians - encouraging them to consider fostering a pet.
