About Tomato
ππ Available for Adoption "Tomato π
ππ
Tomato aka Buddy πΆ
1-2 year old, male Cattle X, medium size, approx. 27 kgs
Desexed, microchipped and vaccinated.
π
Tomato is a delightful, happy and loving young boy. Heβs playful and gentle and he loves, loves, loves food, cuddles and pats. He has striking markings on his face. Heβs cheeky and inquisitive. Heβs fast, fit and agile. He has an excellent temperament, his manners are good and heβs loyal and affectionate.
History
π
Tomato has had a sad start to life having witnessed domestic violence in his previous household and heβs also experienced physical abuse from the male in that household.
π When he arrived in Melbourne, it took some time to get a collar and lead on him. He can get very scared and timid and backs backs when he feels threatened.
π He adjusted very well and quickly to his foster Mum who was able to put his lead and harness on not long after arriving into foster care however, this cannot be done by the foster Dad in the house. He is very wary of males so a female presence is essential.
π When he feels scared or threatened by a male (and sometimes this has happened in foster care where the child in the home or a female visitor to the home has scared him) he quickly finds his foster Mum for safety and assurance.
π
After being surrendered to a rural pound in NSW, Tomato came to his foster family in Melbourne 4 weeks ago.
Food
π
Tomato is food motivated. He eats almost everything and he eats fast! He loves his food and treats and will always happily take this. He does not snatch.
π He has never stolen food from the plate of the child in the home.
π If living with another dog, he will eat his food then want to see what the other dog has left. He is being taught to watch and wait patiently and told βnoβ when wanting to eat the other dogβs food. He is currently fed separately to his foster sister just as a precaution however, there have not been any incidents.
π
His love of food will assist with continued training.
Manners
π
Tomato will sit, shake and drop down to the ground.
π When preparing his food he will wait patiently and once the bowl is ready to be placed on the floor he is already sitting with one paw up to shake and full enthusiasm.
π He is crate trained and will happily go in his crate for rest time and he sleeps all night in the crate until he is let out in the morning.
π For his age, there has been little destruction around the home (a few cushions have been chewed and some holes have been dug outside) otherwise he is well behaved.
π Tomato is toilet trained.
π Tomato is still learning βnoβ and will benefit from continued training.
π Tomato has excellent recall within the home and backyard (he has not been tested off the lead outside of the home as he is in foster care).
π
He loves to follow his foster Mum everywhere she goes inside and outside of the house. Because he is young, he loves to explore and wants to know what you are doing all the time. He is his foster Mumβs shadow.
Play
π
Tomato can catch and chase a ball.
π He loves his toys and itβs recommended that he has plenty of these to entertain himself.
π
He loves to show his cheeky side by taking a sock from the washing and running off with it. He loves to be chased and thinks itβs a big game when you want to get it off of him.
Other dogs
π
Tomato has been living with his foster sister and they get along very well. Tomato has not shown any signs of aggression or of being a danger.
π Tomato will benefit from a play mate who is young (under 4 years old) with similar levels of energy and size.
π He loves to play and run and roll around on the floor/ground with his playmate.
π
Tomato will be happy to be an only dog but he will need plenty of toys to keep him occupied and plenty of attention from his family.
Kids in the house
π
Tomato is great with kids. His foster family has a 7 year old boy and there have not been any problems.
π
Due to his high energy levels though it is recommended that he goes to a home where children are 8 years old and over due to his size and enthusiasm.
Walking
π
Tomato loves going on walks and walks well on the harness.
π
He does not pull much unless he is walking with another dog and that dog is pulling, then Tomato will want to keep up.
Tomatoβs current routine
π
He is fed 2-3 times a day plus treats.
π He sleeps inside in his crate with blankets, a small pillow and toys.
π He is walked every day with his foster sister.
π Someone is home most of the week. He can be left outside when no one is home and has demonstrated that he can be trusted.
π
He loves going in the car for school drop off and pick up.
Tomatoβs ideal future would be:
π
A female is a must. A male and kids also in the family will be fine.
π Tomato will bond quickly with the female in the home.
π It will take time for Tomato to trust his new family, particularly the male in the home.
π He needs attention.
π He needs love and time.
π He needs exercise.
π He needs plenty of toys.
π A playmate will be great for him as long as the playmate is 4 years old or younger and has similar levels of energy and is a similar size to him.
π He needs 2-3 meals per day plus treats.
π Tomato will make the most amazing new addition to any family that is willing to give him time and a happy and loving home.
