About Grapefruit
Hi there, my rescue name is Grapefruit but my foster family call me Scarlet. I am a beautiful 4 month old Staffy cross girl and I currently weigh 8.5 kg. Fully grown I will be a medium sized dog who will require moderate exercise and stimulation.
I was rescued from regional NSW in March where I had been thrown down a chute in a rural pound like I was rubbish. The chute at the pound ended in a pen that I shared for 2 days with terrified adult dogs and 5 litters of puppies, all who were suffering from the deadly parvo virus. I was the only pup to survive.
As a result, I suffered numerous bites all over. The bite to my face caused multiple fractures, pieced my nasal cavity, has damaged the growth cells for my adult canine tooth on the left side and I have a small scar to match. Due to the amount of damage, it is unlikely that the adult canine tooth will erupt. I am also potentially at risk of chronic lifelong rhinitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose). This may result in chronic sneezing and nasal discharge and can be managed by a vet if needed.
Since being in foster care, I have come a long way and thrived in the family home, however I am a little timid when I am uncomfortable with my surroundings or unfamiliar people. I am toilet trained and have learnt to use a doggy door; however, I am still young and can have the occasional accident if I can’t hold on. I am crate trained for bedtime.
I absolutely adore children and love to play and cuddle. I have been very gentle with all the little humans I have met and played with (my current little humans are noisy but are very gentle and know how to behave around me, so I feel safe). I love cuddles from my foster mummy and anyone else that is offering cuddles.
I can sit on command and can walk on a lead. I am very smart and will need continued obedience training and socialisation.
I have met a variety of animals such as sheep, ducks, chooks and a cat. I was happy to wonder around with them but also think its fun to play chasey with them. I do stop and come back when I get told to leave them. I love other dogs so much that I get so excited and want to wrestle with them. I am still young so can be taught how to behave around all animals as I grow.
I would love to go to a home with children and another dog to keep me company when the humans aren’t home. And would prefer my humans to be home more often than not or be able to go with them in the car.
I have been vet checked, I am microchipped and have had my first immunisations. I have just been desexed and now ready to find my forever home.
