About Grillz
Grillz is looking for a specific home and family, Please read his profile carefully and apply if you meet his needs.
- Grillz cannot be around young people and children.
- Grillz isn't keen on visitors and he lets out confusing signals. He looks interested in meeting people but it leaves him feeling very uncomfortable. It is best that he is completely ignored by visitors and put into his crate when the first arrive and to be on a lead.
- He is smart and has energy and will need owners dedicated to enrichment and brain games, or trick training, and have the ability to walk him without being around too many people and dogs, and be committed and know how to help him in these situations.
- Grillz will need an experience owner, or someone with an interest in dog training or will be able to pay for ongoing one on one training sessions. We can give names of dog trainers.
- Grillz is not suited to a dog park or to be off lead in public. In places that are safe to do so, he enjoys a long lead.
- Grillz will need to be an only pet in his new home.
- Grillz will need his owners to be home often and to be allowed inside to be with his family.
- Grillz will need a good size yard and secure fencing.
Grillz is a lively and energetic dog who thrives on engaging activities and exploration. His favourite pastimes include soaking up the sun, , taking a dip in a lake or beach, tug-of-war, and embarking on adventures to discover new scents. He enjoys the challenge of sniffing out treats, and we do this both at home and on walks as it increases his engagement.
Around people, Grillz is cautious. When people visit the house, it is best for them to completely ignore Grillz and respect his boundaries by not petting him. This is especially important as he does appear very friendly and curious about new people so they might feel tempted to pet him. Grillz should not be around children.
Leash walking has been a work in progress, with training focused on using a slip lead for communication and treats to positively reinforce good behaviour. He absolutely loves being on a long leash as this gives him much more freedom to explore and sniff as well as play high energy games including fetch. We have been using the long leash to train his recall, which is good but still needs work.
Grillz is a quick learner and knows basic commands like sit, spin, down, and paw. He's also adept at picking up new tricks, which helps keep him mentally stimulated and strengthens his bond with his caregivers. He's fully toilet trained and indicates when he needs to go outside.
During rest times, Grillz prefers to be close to his humans, whether it's lounging on the couch or snuggling up in bed. While he enjoys his crate and is comfortable spending time there, he also appreciates the option to sleep near his family. His previous foster carers knew him as the “space invader” and he still lives up to this name.
Grillz is reactive to dogs. He is able to go about his own business when they are at a distance, however, walking across the street from other dogs can be challenging, especially if the other dog shows interest in Grillz. Grillz is very vocal and will let you know when he is getting stressed or anxious on a walk.
With patience and understanding, Grillz is a loving companion who will bring lots of joy to your world.

Adoption details
Please note- we do not work on a first in best dressed basis, we assess all applications to choose the home that we believe will best match the animal.
If you believe one of our animals would be a good match for your home please send us a detailed email us with some information about the people and any other animals in your home as well as the type of lifestyle you can offer a new rescue pet. We are volunteerswho run the rescue around families, paid employment and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
