About Ruger
Ruger is a beautiful working dog mixed breed possibly border collie, kelpie, koolie x approximately 18 months old. He was surrendered to a pound in rural NSW by a neglectful family.
Ruger is dog friendly (Small & Large) and dog and people social. He has been fostered with another Kelpie and catches up regularly with Kelpie catch up groups (large number of dogs). He has also been to Doggy Day care. Not tested with cats.
Loves a car ride, anywhere and knows his harness means that or an adventure outside. Not even bothered if we head to the vet.
He is extremely loyal and has confused himself with a lap dog as he loves to be up close and personal for a cuddle. Ruger loves all the neighbourhood kids (8-15yo) but hasn’t been tested with young children. He was completely disinterested in my friend’s 6-month baby.
He is still young (18months), so can get the kelpie super focus when the tennis ball comes out. As a kelpie does, as he gets older, he will chill out and centre.
We have been working on the basic training and Ruger is a very fast learner. I train with hand signals as well as verbal (as my voice isn’t loud enough to be heard when off leash and at distance. We have been working on a lot of sign language as we believe there may be a little hearing loss. He has huge promise in activities like K9 nose.
Working through the basic training, is toilet trained and he walks well on a lead.
He is friendly with strangers but like a typical Kelpie tends to say hello and then move on.
He would suit someone who treats their dogs like family and takes their dogs out and about with them. As a working dog he needs to be kept busy, but that doesn’t mean hours of walking.
Think food puzzles, mental stimulation, walks, social activities, new places and Ruger will be your one and only all his life x
Ruger would be best as an only dog but could possibly share his home with a friendly female working breed dog. He likes to receive all the attention from his family.
Medical notes
May have a slight hearing impairment.
