About Barney - Dingo X
Hi! My name is Barney and I LOVE people – tall ones, short ones, big ones, small ones – people are my favourite. The shelter volunteers have told me I’m too big to be a lap dog, but they are wrong. No lap? No problem. If you are standing up, I will lean against you to get pats and show you how much I love you.
All I want in life is a human friend to cuddle, who loves to play and has a big back yard! I love to play frisbee, catch balls and run around as I have lots of energy and need plenty of space to run and play. Though I must be always on a lead when outside the back yard as dingoes do not have good recall.
I like to keep active and busy, after all I am only 3.5 years old and still a puppy at heart. Squeaky toys, kongs, tennis balls, tug of war with rope toys and chewing sticks are my favourite pastimes. I even know how to fetch and catch treats when they are thrown in the air. I love to keep you company if you are gardening or working in the garage.
My current foster parents are working on my training when walking on a lead, and I am doing so well. I still pull a little as I am so excited to see the world, and I am a bit reactive to moving cars, so we walk in quiet streets, farm lanes and open spaces.
I am house-trained and currently have my own bed inside the house in the bathroom, and I sleep quietly and peacefully all night. I also have a bed in the loungeroom where I can hang out with you at night to watch tv and get lots of pats.
It would be great if my new family was committed to continuing my training (the rescue will cover the cost of 5 training sessions). I’m a bit too boisterous for small humans, but kids over 12 would be ok and at 34kgs I need owners who can handle a strong medium-sized dog.
I have been with my foster parents for over 12 months, and they say I am the sweetest, cuddliest dog and would be a wonderful member of a family who can give me lots of attention and where I am the only dog. Plus, I am very trainable and very smart and know lots of commands like sit, water, dinner, walk, toy, bedtime, etc. I am a bit excited when meeting new people and will bark a bit, but as soon as they give me pats all is right with the world.
Are you my forever home? I am not suitable to live with cats, birds, livestock or small animals due to my breed (I am a dingo/cattle dog mix). And my new home must have secure 1.8m fencing so I can have a safe place to run and play. I need a home where I am the only dog as I am more of a people person. And I am a bit unsure of other dogs, so best we stay away from dog parks and busy places for now. I would love to find my permanent home and become part of your family.
I am currently living with my foster parents in Romsey, Victoria.
Adoption details
Dingo Adoption:
1. Send an email inquiry with your name and contact details outlining your current living situation, pets and family members and anything else you think might be relevant, particularly what your house and yard are like. Remember our dingoes typically require an enclosure or modified fencing.
2. We will email you back adoption information and an application form to fill out and return to us.
3. If your application is approved- Come along to meet us and our dingoes at our Goulburn shelter or their foster carers' home and let us find the right furry family member for you. We can also come to you. We are happy to meet new prospective owners anywhere in NSW or the ACT.
4. Before you can pick up your new dingo you will also need to under a house/yard check and pay your adoption fee. No animals are rehomed unless their adoption fee is paid in full and a yard check has been completed.
