About Banjo
Banjo is a fit, healthy young dog who is on the lookout for his best mate. He loves everyone and is so very keen to please. A very quick learner, he can sit nicely, provide short waits at doors or for food and is responding well to basic training.
Unfortunately, Banjo and his previous owner fell victim to Qld's Rental Crisis and found themselves homeless. His owner has since secured accommodation, however like many he was forced to surrender his dog and this occurred after many attempts to secure their welfare together.
Banjo is at the perfect age to begin a new life with a new family. He is bright and learns very quickly. He grew up with young children, and is currently in foster care with primary aged children, a large breed dog, cats, caged birds and needs supervision around the guinea pigs. His previous owner also suggested free range chickens were not recommended.
Aussie Cattle Dogs are high energy breeds, who appreciate routine and enjoy any opportunities to work. Simply walking the bin to the kerb each week, or checking the letterbox will soon become regular jobs that this boy enjoys. If you are a regular walker, runner or cyclist, Banjo would make a great companion and look forward to the exercise opportunities together.
He enjoys car travel, and has previously resided outdoors with a kennel. He is crate trained and is currently sleeping in an 80cm high pen in an enclosed outdoor area. He enjoys chew toys as he is still getting used to having a full set of shiny, strong permanent teeth. He still requires 3 meals a day which include a midday scatter, treasure hunt, or chew treat.
His previous owner is hopeful that Banjo may find a new home on acreage, however a home with ample opportunities for Banjo to exercise and operate with good contact time would also be considered. While he copes well with family life in foster care, it's expected he would also really excel in a one on one situation with a best mate (human). This best mate could be male or female. If you are looking for company, or possibly even assistance, this boy would be very happy in either role. True to his breed, he is keen to work, so there would need to be activity in his new lifestyle.
Banjo is not a barker, however he does alert with a short, sharp bark when a stranger arrives. He is respectful of boundaries and low fencing, and makes no attempt to jump baby gates (80cm). He is learning not to bark to prompt play with his dog mate and this has diminished across time.
If you think Banjo may be your boy, you are welcome to make contact. Please let us know where you are located and what you offer him. Your contact letter is your application, so please include as much information as you can, including practical details about your home and yard, family dynamics and your general availability to meet with him in North Brisbane if this is an option. Please take the time to create a full application letter in your first contact, to help us process them.
(Transport may be available to areas in SEQ, the WideBay/Burnett or Central Qld).
