About Sash
We are very excited to finally introduce you to the lovely Sash - 7 long months after she first arrived from Deathrow.
Sash has had a tough time going through heartworm treatment, but she is all clear now and is ready to start a new adventure with her forever family.
She is a beautiful 3 ½ year-old mixed breed dog weighing in at around 25kgs – possibly a kelpie / cattle mix.
Sash arrived as a very scared, timid, underweight girl who would bury all her food.
She has taken a long time to trust her foster family and she still is a little jumpy and can get spooked with sudden movements or noises.
She is a very loving girl and has become very fond of a cuddler or twenty these days.
Her people are her world and being with you is what make her happiest..
Very loyal and protective of her foster family and her home, it has taken her time to learn that people coming in to her home are not a threat.
Aside from her people there are so many things she enjoys now.
She absolutely loves going for car rides and will bark with excitement for the first few minutes of being in the car and then will settle down.
Once in the car she loves to play Sash does like to play “Lets Air Bite cars, bikes and dogs as they pass”
This causes much amusement to those passing by.
Another source of joy is walks.
She has been learning to walk politely on the lead as she used to pull a lot with excitement.
She is making huge improvements but will need to continue with her training.
Months of crate restraint whilst she recovered from heartworm has delayed her training but she is really catching up now.
Sash is not quite sure how to socialise with other dogs on the lead and will bark with nervous excitement.
Sash loves going for walks with her foster grandma’s and sister’s dogs and plays well with non-aggressive/reactive dogs once she gets to know them.
She is a great dog to take for runs.
And then there is WATER ..
She will play under the sprinkler or hose for days if she could , it can make washing the car or hosing the garden a fun experience for everyone.
Sash loves fetching balls and splashing in the water at the local creek.
She loves playing at the beach too, you will need to watch her though as she likes to bite the waves and ends up drinking a bit too much salty water.
Her favourite outings are running free at Sandgate dog beach when the tide is out, she is great at coming back to you when you call for her.
Back to balls.
She will fetch them all day if she could.
You will just need to take the balls away when you have had enough otherwise she will chew them up or keep dropping them at your feet for more throws.
Sash is becoming more smoochy and will paw you for pats or even pop her head on you lap while you are watching TV.
She loves sleeping in bed with you, usually up next to your head if there is a spare pillow or under the blankets in winter.
Sash will sit by the window and wait for you to come home each day.
The neighbours love seeing Sash watching over the neighbourhood while waiting for her humans to come home.
She gets so excited to see you, whether you have been gone for 5 minutes or all day.
Sash would prefer to have a human home with her more often than not, but settles well.
There is no crying, but she will chew, so it is important to leave her out things that she can chew.
Luckily, Sash loves bones.
You will need to have tall and secure fences,
Sash can get over 6ft fences, however her foster mum has been testing her for short periods lately and she hasn’t been trying to get out.
Sash has got a lot of energy and would best suit a family that can take her for big walks at least twice a day and throw the ball to her a lot.
She is very clever so training is a must.
She knows sit, stay, paw, down, out, bed and come.
Foster mum thinks that Sash would love to have a fur brother or sister to play with, especially when you are out, but they would have to be patient and non-aggressive.
Sash has got a great nose and can smell a possum from a mile away.
She will run out and have a bark at them but has never hurt them.
She used to love playing chase with the resident bush turkey too.
She has not been tested with cats.
Sash can get a little bit rough when playing with her humans and can puppy mouth so older kids are probably a better fit than little ones.
She loves a bit of rough and tumble and even some hide and seek
Sash loves life and is still learning to find her place in the world.
It can be a little scary at times and will need loving and committed humans to help her be the best that she can be.
Sash is desexed, vaccinated, heartworm treated, microchipped and up to date with her flea and worm treatments.
She is located in foster care at Albany Creek (Brisbane northside) and her adoption fee is $495
If you think you could be Sash’s perfect forever home, please send us a detailed message telling us all about yourself and the wonderful life she would share with you.
She will need an experienced owner with time, patience, and a commitment to ongoing training.
In return you will be rewarded with the most loyal girl you could wish for.
