About Brandi
Brandi
Such a pretty and loving girl who needs the right home
Brandi is an eight-month-old Border Collie with a lot of energy. Brandi loves going for long walks, runs and to the dog park. Brandi is great with other dogs, and loves to go to the dog park. She is a dog that requires a lot of exercise and discipline, as she tends to get destructive when not stimulated enough as she is still a young girl

Travelling in the car
Brandi travels great in the car. She does not bark or cry when left in the car and she does not get car sick. She is always happy to get in the car.
Food
Brandi eats a mix of Vetalogica puppy food and prime roll. She has been quite picky with her food since being with her foster family, but her appetite seems to have increased since getting desexed. Brandi’s favourite treats are cooked chicken and dried liver treats.
Outside
Brandi is great outside. She does not bark much, and she is usually quite calm when left outside by herself. She can get a bit destructive if given the opportunity, so it is important to remember to not leave your favourite pair of shoes with her, and to ensure she has toys and/or a bone to chew on for her to stay occupied.
Visitors – people
When meeting new people in the home Brandi will initially be insecure and a little scared but will warm up quite quickly if you come down to her level and let her come to you. If the visitor is given a few treats she warms up even quicker. When Brandi has met people at the dog park, or outside in general, she is more confident.
Brandi has met children at the dog park and has always been gentle with them, but we don’t think she is suited for a family with young children, as she has some challenging behaviours that will require further training.
Enrichment
Brandi loves to be occupied and when she has to work for what she wants. Her favourite toy is a chew that we can put a dentastix in and then she has to try and get it out. She also enjoys the snuffle mat where she gets to use her nose to find treats. We do some daily obedience training which she also enjoys, as long as we have some yummy treats. Brandi requires both mental and physical stimulation to be happy.
Independence
Brandi is very independent and can be left alone without any issues. Her foster family always leaves her outside when we have to leave her during the day as she would get bored inside.
Walks – lead experience
When Brandi came to her foster family, she did not seem to have much lead experience. We have had her for three weeks now and she has already gotten much better. When walked with a harness she can pull a lot at times and can jump towards people in an attempt to greet them. Her foster family has started walking her with a halti instead and she walks perfectly with that on. She can be a little difficult when it comes to putting a harness on and taking it off. She tends to throw herself at the floor and can at times bite at the harness, but we think it’s just over excitement and her not knowing how to behave at times.
Obedience
Brandi knows: come here, sit, lay down, high five, go to bed, stay, and find it. She is very intelligent and picks up new things super quick. Her recall is great, and she always comes when we call her over at the dog park, but she can be a little difficult to catch if she doesn’t want to go home. Her foster family is working on this by calling her over often just to give her some pats, so that she doesn’t associate being called over with going home.
Brandi has a habit of jumping on us when we get home or when she gets excited. We are working on this daily, but she will require further training.
Brandi is very strong willed and when she doesn’t want to do something, it can be difficult to convince her. She can get mouthy when she is told to do something she doesn’t want to and can bite in the air and be a bit snappy. She hasn’t bitten her foster family hard, just nipped at us, but it is important that her future family don’t get frightened by this, as that willempower the behaviour. She is a dog that requires an assertiveand patient leader, as she will test the boundaries.
Inside
Brandi is at this stage quite unsettled when inside, which can make her destructive. She will pace back and forth and will find things to chew on if within reach. Brandi seems much more at peace when she is outside and is then able to lay down and rest in her kennel for extended periods of time without any problem. When inside, she is unable to settle down unless we tell her that she must stay on her bed. If Brandi is to be an inside dog, her family must be prepared to be patient and work with her on this.
Dog socialisation, cat, small animals
Brandi is great with other dogs and has not shown any dog aggression. She can initially get a little bit overwhelmed and shy around large, high-energy dogs, but it usually passes after a few minutes of running around. She is very gentle with smaller dogs and puppies and is usually the dog that is running a few metres behind the others when they are playing, to keep a safe distance. Her foster family have not introduced her to any cats or other small animals so we are unsure how she would react.
Sleeping habits
We initially had Brandi sleeping outside which she seemed to really enjoy. When the nights got colder, and Brandi got desexed we moved her inside and she is now sleeping in the laundry. She is well behaved and rarely cries and never barks when in the laundry, but she can get a little destructive if she gets bored. We always make sure she has something to chew on to prevent this.
She seems to really prefer to be outside for the most part
Toilet training
Brandi is almost 100% toilet trained and has only had a few of accidents while with her foster family, and they were all preventable. Brandi will try to show us when she needs to go. She is starting to learn to go and scratch on the back door when she needs to go out. She understands “go toilet” and will go and pee when asked. Brandi has not had any accidents overnight.
Ideal home
Brandi is a beautiful dog and with the right training and enough daily exercise and stimulation she will be great. Being a border collie, she is a working dog, and she craves stimulation and a purpose. She wants to be challenged to use both her brain and her body. We think she would be happy to live in a family with other dogs, as long as they are not too intense, as she can get a bit overwhelmed by that. She is only eight months old, so she loves to play with other dogs. Brandi is fine to leave alone during the day, but she wants to be outside as she gets
too bored inside.
Brandi is seeking the following forber home
We think Brandi would love a playmate and a friend to become her role model . If there is another dog in residence we would be seeking a med size male who is playful and tolerant of young dogs
Someone who will exercise Brandi and stimulate her very intelligent brain
Someone who knows how to deal with challenging behaviours and is patient.
A large and secure yard with plenty of shade and shelter
If there are any children in the family, they need to be of mature age due to her sometimes challenging behaviour
Brandi is not suitable for a first-time dog owner and we are seeking a breed experienced home that can help her develop in to the great dog she has potential to be
