About Beans
*In foster care in Pyrmont, Sydney*
Beans will enchant you all day, every day with his sociable purrsonality and endless sweetness! He's looking for an amazing home where he'll be treated as the king of the castle - just as he deserves! - and has only one special request: another friendly cat to play and bump noses with!
As charming with strangers as he is with his favourite people, Beans is a very calm low maintenance boy who is happiest when he knows you're nearby. He has a 'thing' for water - often jumping into the shower to lap up the water right after you've stepped out! But don't let his low maintenance side fool you, Beans still loves to be close by and will follow his foster carer from room to room, keeping her company at all times!
A former street cat, Beans has taken to the indoor VIP life like a champ. He does love a good butt, chin scratch and will take all the pets he can get! He just needs some tender loving care, plus time and patience to truly come out of his shell ... and once he does, boy are you in for a treat! From off the bat Beans would accept pats and sleep on the bed most nights, this then progressed to being picked up and danced around the room ... and now 4 months after being in care, Beans loves to watch TV and snuggle up with you on the sofa (half on and half off your lap), he sleeps on the bed every night, will follow you from room to room to room like a shadow, and while you're working from home he will sleep next to you on the desk.
Like all Maggie's pets, Beans is microchipped, desexed and vaccinated. Please see medical notes for more information on Beans' history.

MY IDEAL HOME: ... will have another young cat to play with, please! I am currently in foster care with a young cat called Gretel and we make the purrfect pair! (also up for adoption - https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/838906) - and you will often find us playing chase, kissing noses and chatting to one another in cute little chirps! You'll also enjoy hanging out with me, though it'll generally be pretty low-key - I love napping near you while you're watching TV or working from home.
It's not the end of the world if you don't work from home because I'll have my fur sibling to keep me company, however I'd definitely be happiest in a home where people are around more often than not. I'm open to living with a single person, a couple or an older family - I'm easy! A home with patience and kindness will be essential as I start my new life with you.
MY ENERGY LEVEL: Medium! I'm still very young, so playtime is always enjoyable! Da Bird is my favourite toy in the world. I'll leap and fly through the air to catch it, then carry it away and guard it until I feel like giving it back to my foster mum to play with again :) I am also good at sharing, and will sit patiently and watch Gretel play with Da Bird until it's my turn.
MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: I'm really gentle and have never bitten or scratched anyone, but can be a bit jumpy with loud and unfamiliar noises. However, once I get used to the noises they don't bother me. I think young children would scare me so I'll need a home with older children or no children, please. Funnily enough, I have absolutely no issue with the vacuum!
MY SUITABILITY TO CATS AND DOGS: Cats are the best - a home with another young cat to play with is pretty much non-negotiable! I haven't had the chance to meet any dogs yet.
Medical notes
As mentioned, Beans has an obsession with drinking water which experienced cat owners will know is a little unusual for cats. After multiple urine and blood tests, diabetes and adrenal disease have been ruled out. Beans does however have dilute urine which the vet has advised can mean one of two things: 1) his kidneys are not functioning optimally which causes him to be thirsty and have dilute urine, 2) he has a psychological issue with water - when he was a street cat he possibly had water withheld for a extended period of time, and now when he sees water available he will do everything in his power to get to it. As his previous foster carer, I believe this could be psychological because even when water is available in multiple spots around the home, if Beans hears water or sees you drinking, he can become quite anxious if he cannot get to it. He will even go as far as licking the condensation off a cold water bottle - so drinking excessive amounts of water could be the reason for the dilute urine.
As a result, Beans must remain on Kidney Care food for the foreseeable future. The vet has also recommended he have a urine test every 6 months.
Please also keep in mind that because Beans drinks a lot, he also wees a lot, so at least 1-2 (ideally 2) large litter trays would be best. You will go through more litter than with a regular cat, so a smart litter system would be a good idea. A good example of this would be the OzPet litter system.

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
