This little girl was known to me & surrendered because of family circumstances.
She has been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia/luxating patellas, due to poor breeding. To operate was going to cost an incredible amount of money & was going to leave this young pup with alot of pain. So she came to us for rehabilitation & to look at other methods of supporting her body. She could not walk properly when she first arrived - now she can RUN.
A new diet to include a full detox initially, then switched to a very specific raw food (no kibble), fruit/veg and meat concoction with added herbs, vitamins & mineral supplements to assist her healing. Very easy to make and very cost effective & healthy for her.
We slowly built up muscle strength through special exercise, training & swimming as well as massage (all can be done at home, we will teach you how as it needs to continue).
This beautiful pup is now active within the pack here. She loves to go for a swim & water is good for her. She loves to play fetch (but for obvious reasons these games need to be safely monitored so that she is not overworked) & she loves human company.
She LOVES ALL men and neatly wraps them around her little furry paws for lots of attention, kisses & cuddles. For obvious reasons we do not want her sleeping on the bed, but she is crate trained & would be happy to sleep in your bedroom or in a room nearby. In the morning you will be greeted by happy kisses & a waggy tail.
She is well mannered inside the house or outside in the back garden & enjoys laying out in the sun. She needs to get outside to stretch those little legs & must not be cooped up inside all day. A short walk each day, appropriate play each day & a few swims each week would be an excellent regime.
At only just over 12 months old this wee girl needs to be kept on a strict BARF type diet (no kibble, or commercial food/treats) along with her herbs & supplements. She also takes Antinol rapid- all of which will need to be continued for the rest of her life. We are here to guide/assist and direct you to a holistic veterinarian who will understand her needs in a balanced way if needed.
Her new adoptive parents will need to be very supportive of her needs/ diet & be willing to work with us to ensure her health is kept in tip top condition. That includes keeping her weight slim so that there is never any excess weight bearing on her joints.
She will come with a training package to help her new owners continue the great training she has been learning. Atm she has a fantastic recall (under distraction), walks nicely on lead, holds her boundaries at doorways & gates, can hold a drop or bed command for an hour if needed, eats all her dinner, & is learning to continually listen & make good choices. She is still remembering not to bark at strange sounds, but is generally very good at this. She loves to play with all dogs however with her medical disposition, it would be desirable that if she were to have a doggy companion, that they be very well mannered, gentle and small in size.
No Apartment dwellers, must have own back yard. Strongly prefer Mornington Peninsula based locals apply. No full time workers - someone MUST be home most of the time.
We would request to do a training and behavioural assessment with your dog prior to an adoption approval or consideration. If you are not willing for these ideals to happen then this little dog is not for you.
Medical notes
This sweet girl has hip dysplasia & luxating patellas which have been very succesfully treated naturally so far. Her current diet and treatment would need to continue for the rest of her life, however as she ages she may need additional help via special injections/massage/ infra red therapy or dry needling to help keep her on top of things. You would need to be prepared to cover these costs and research what they may set you back as she will not be covered by pet insurance due to the fact that the conditions were from poor breeding and existing from birth. These are non-negotiables.
Due to the nature of her disposition, we are preferring not to operate as alternative methods are proving very stable at this point in time.
Currently she is on a variety of natural foods, herbs and supplements as well as a daily dose of Antinol Rapid (which is also natural). This would need to continue and is not negotiable.
On going training with us on a monthly catch up type basis is a must so that her new humans learn to communicate with her in the manner she understands, This is not negotiable and will be at the new owners expense after the initial training sessions included in the adoption price have happened.
That said we are looking for a VERY special responsible and reliable person or family to adopt this little sweetheart and will take our time n finding her new home. Her new owners will be fully advised and verbally supported by us. Her adoption fee includes some private training sessions with us as well. Local owners (Mornington Peninsula) are preferred for this reason.
