About Rylie
Rylie is a medium sized, super smiley, Rotti Mix (possibly kelpie or Aussie Shep?) She weighs 26kg and has a very loyal personality, and loves people. She has also mixed well with other dogs during her time in shelter. Rylie is looking for an indoor and outdoor home as she likes snuggling on the couch at TV time, and will also place on her bed when asked. Riley was previously allowed access to couches and beds, and her foster carer is currently redirecting her to her own bed. She is toilet trained and waits at the door when she needs out. She loves nothing more than following her foster carer about and keeping her company in the kitchen, loungeroom, yard or shed.
Rottweilers are active, intelligent dogs and Rylie loves a good gallop in the garden, tossing toys about and playing with the hose. Rotti's are short burst energy dogs and play time is brief and she enjoys morning and afternoon exercise prompts. They are also often known for their aloofness, and this girl is something of a pause and consider type with new people, but warms quickly and assumes a submissive pose very quickly to let you know she's keen for belly rubs. She's something of a water baby and enjoys a bath. Her easy to maintain coat, shines with a quick daily brush and she loves grooming time as its all just a fantastic big pat to her.
Rylie has previously lived indoors with children and was relegated to a yard dog prior to her surrender. She is responding well when out on walks, and walking on lead appears a relatively new thing for her. She is learning to walk on the left, collar to lead. Her foster carer found she pulled strongly when in her harness. She may possibly be happier exercising in her yard, playing with toys and swimming in a familiar environment.
She is currently living with guinea pigs and small birds and beyond initial interest, she has had no issue with them. At 4, Rylie has developed some good anxiety abating skills, which helped her settle quickly into her foster carers home. These include playing with her chew and soft toys, swimming/paddling and she will also turn to food if something new occurs, so kibble remains available for free grazing. Her transition pack will include her bed and toys and a paddle pool is recommended.
Rylie has a great set of basic manners and rarely barks, however she did bark at the mower, hairdryer and vacuum when she first encountered them. Some desensitization has occurred with these items and may be required with other small motor sounds. She loves car travel and sits nicely in her harness.
She enjoys contact and will nudge the hand or foot that stops patting/rubbing her. Rylie really is looking for her best mate and we are hoping to locate someone who has good availability, and is also looking for a companion to spend their days with. She's a great listener, always has a smile to share, and really is a great addition to a quiet home.
If you think Rylie may be the buddy you are looking for, please prepare an application and let us know about your home dynamic, availability, home and fencing, and also let us know about your previous dog experience and experience with this breed.
Transport is available at cost should Rylie's best mate be located in South East Qld or the Wide/Bay Burnett. Please include photos of your family, yards and fencing should you apply from beyond Brisbane.
Please understand we often get many, many applications for our dogs and we consider every one of them, with the dogs best match in mind. Please take the time to prepare a complete application that ensures we know all about you and the home you are offering Rylie. Please understand you may not receive an immediate response - as applications can remain under review for a week or so. You are welcome to check back in here, as her status will be changed alongside progress through the application process. All applicants are always notified when an adoption is finalised.
Medical notes
Rottweilers commonly experience ear infections, especially if they are water lovers. Rylie has previously received treatment for this, however she is currently in good health and receives no medication (other than routine flea/tick, wormer and heartworm preventatives).
