About Archie
This little boy is looking for a very special home for Christmas. He takes time to settle in new environments and really needs a great connection with a human buddy to explore and meet new people. He is his happiest in a small, safe yard with indoor access and doesn't cope well with high traffic and lots of activity. For this reason, Archie is looking for a quiet home (without children or lots of visitors) and a special person to call his best mate. He arrived very shy and startled easily. Across time he has settled nicely and bonded well with his carer, responding to his name and handling nicely.
Archie is crate trained and has a great routine with dinner and bedtime. He uses an indoor toilet and goes outside if access is available. Unusual for his breed, he is not a barker and alerts with a low "huff" sound. He will offer a single "yip" for the toilet. He travels well in the car, but does not enjoy new places, so if you are looking for a dog to take on daily walks, hikes or general adventuring beyond home - Archie will not be suitable. He steps into his personality, when given time to familiarise and enjoys routines and a reliable environment.
He is a purebred Australian Silky Terrier and is long coated. Silkies require daily brushing to ensure their coats remain in good condition and full clipping is not recommended as their coats contribute significantly to temperature control particularly during hot weather. He enjoys a brush each night and receives hygiene clips as required.
Archie loves water! He enjoys swims in a paddle pool and any ponds will need to be secured if available. Once comfortable he is super playful and looks forward to toy time in the morning and evening. He has lived with caged birds, fish, guinea pigs and another large breed female. He has a big appetite for a little dog, and enjoys small chews, and a raw food diet. As an adolescent, he has also been known to run off with thongs or small shoes :)
Archie will require a small crate for bedtime. His adoption pack includes: His Certified Pedigree, Toys, familiar bedding, treats, transitional food, cooling pad, brushes, collar and lead. Transport may be available to the Widebay/Burnett and Central Qld, with a familiar handover available.
If you think you may be the best buddy Archie is hoping to spend Christmas with, please prepare an application when contacting us. Let us know about your lifestyle, family dynamic, work hours, fencing, visitors/foot traffic, any other pets and previous dog or breed experience. Please understand, applications are assessed with the best match in mind, and a meet will be required to gauge Archie's confidence with those shortlisted. This dog is not available for gifting - it is very important that he connect positively with his forever friend, so a meet will be required.
Medical notes
Archie is in good health, with a current treatment schedule. An Anxiety aid will be provided to assist with his transition into his new home.
