About Theo - Dingo Mix
Hey everyone! My name is Theo (short for Theodora) and I'm currently in need of a home. I'm an empress just like my namesake Empress Theodora of Rome, capable of extreme cheekiness, but I get away with everything thanks to my extraordinary adorableness.
I love food and snuggling up with my siblings. We had quite the uncertain start to life. After being orphaned at a very young age, (my mum was a wild dingo and killed likely due to 1080 poisoning) I was found scared and alone in a cane field in a non-dingo friendly state. Luckily a kind dog and cat rescue contacted Sydney Fox and Dingo Rescue about my siblings and I. Their fantastic volunteers banded together and managed to drive us all a whopping 2,500 kilometres down to the rescue where we can now live happily and safely. I can focus now on the important things in life, like sleeping, chewing and howling.
ABOUT Theo:
Theo is good with people, but can be shy at first. She is playful and very cheeky. Because of her shy, quiet nature she would be better suited to a home with older kids (over 12). She will be around 18-20kg fully grown and would love a home with a doggy or dingo friend of a similar size or bigger for company.
Being a dingo mix Theo is not suitable to be let off leash in unfenced areas as she will not come back. Dingoes should be kept on leash outside your yard. Like all dingoes, Theo has a high prey drive and is not suitable to with cats, pocket pets or birds. Theo needs a large yard and cannot live in an apartment.
Fencing requirements:
Theo is a medium content dingo, this means she has 50% or more dingo parentage as well as some dog genetics.
You will need ONE OR MORE of the follow BEFORE an adoption trial for a dingo can begin.
- Minimum 1.8m high colorbond or paling fence with nothing leaning against or near the fence line.
- Mesh, concrete or similar around the base of the fence may also be required to prevent digging.
Alternatively if you live in a rural area without yard fencing:
-A dog enclosure at least 1.8m high with either a full roof or 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing. Must be at least 25m square (for instance 5m x 5m or 8m x 3m)
Some manufacturers of pre-made dog enclosures include:

Another option is using construction fencing style panels from Bunnings or welded mesh sheets and posts.
Contact Sydney Dingo Rescue for a detailed guide to dingo fencing.
Animal rescue is considered essential. SFDR can still come to you for meet and greets, yard checks and animal adoptions. We have volunteers in Canberra and New South Wales and can come to you even if you we are not in your local government area. Distance is not an issue when we are looking for the perfect homes for our dingoes. Please note we have COVID safety measures in place.

Please note at this time pending legal advice we are unable to offer fox kit adoption to private owners.
Dingo Adoption:
1. Send an email inquiry with your name and contact details outlining your current living situation, pets and family members and anything else you think might be relevant, particularly what your house and yard are like. Remember our dingoes typically require an enclosure or modified fencing.
2. We will email you back adoption information and an application form to fill out and return to us.
3. If your application is approved- Come along to meet us and our dingoes at our Gouburn shelter or their foster carers home and let us find the right furry family member for you. We can also come to you. We drive dingoes all over NSW and the ACT to meet families interested in adoption.
4. Before you can pick up your new dingo you will also need to under a house/yard check and pay your adoption fee. No animals are rehomed unless their adoption fee is paid in full and a yard check has been completed.
