About Odie
This incredibly handsome fella is Odie, he’s 5. He’s quite the typical Great Dane and will wiggle his way into your heart in second. He loves cuddles, the couch and his daily walks. He’s a real pro walking on the lead by your side, only sneaking in a sniff here and there. Odie has some doggie friends that he’s got to know but takes time to get used to strange dogs. For this reason, he’s what we call an ‘on lead only dog’ when he’s out and about. He’s not suited to the dog park or dog beach environment.
Odie did lots of training as a youngster and knows how to be a gentleman. Being the giant that he is, he wasn’t trained to sit as it’s a bit awkward, but he will lay down for you. He knows ‘stay’, ‘get back’, ‘kiss’, ‘heel’, ‘drop’, and ‘drop the ball.’
Odie can be a bit of a Scooby Doo and get nervous with new things. He warms up and gets used to new things but would like to live a simple peaceful life with his new family. He’s not been tested with cats but has lived with birds with no problem.
Odie loves his ball, it’s his squeaky one that's his favourite toy! He gallops around doing his version of fetch. Odie will carry a soft toy around for fun…before destuffing for even more fun. He enjoys splashing in the river or calm ocean and rides well in the car to get there.
Sometimes Odie will bark at noises he hears if left in the yard when you’re out. A home where workers are away for shorter time frames would work well as he’s house trained and will snooze on the couch while you’re away.
Odie is used to some children in his family but children he hasn’t met frighten him, so he won’t be considered for a young family. Odie has suffered some grass allergies from time to time but not in the last year.
