About Koji
I started life with the pedigree name Miskas Fire Light, nowadays I go by the ABR-given moniker of Koji. It means “little one” which is quite hilarious to all as I’m anything but.
More than aware of my size I have the loveliest of manners when it comes to humans of all ages. I may not be the snuggle-bunny type yet I’m always at the ready to greet my people with the cutest little butt wiggle in town. The first to formally greet visitors to your abode upon introduction, strangers who dare try and enter when you are not home best be very brave. I rarely raise my voice but when I do house foundations shake. Apologies, Mr Meter Reader.
Fantastic on lead - obviously I can be strong when I see something exciting in the distance - I am super responsive to command and easy to redirect. Speaking of walkies, they rank quite high in my daily list of wants. Miss just one day and I’m sure you won’t mind that I’ve emptied the bin throughout the house or dragged your soft furnishings and belongings outside, right?
It might also pay to mention that if I feel our walk has not been long enough I will plonk ass in the driveway and refuse to move.
Fully house trained with inside/outside access a must I will only climb onto your furniture if invited. Notice I said climb? So far as I’m concerned I don’t believe I can jump at all. Which makes training sessions to get me to jump into the car quite interesting. Have noms and tonnes of patience and we’ll eventually get there.
Speaking of climbing you will need to have climb proof fencing and strong, sturdy gates otherwise I’m gonski. Most likely on a quest to find a body of water to immerse myself in. Or, as the fosterentals soon found out when they were moving too slow for my liking, into the dog park to play with my fellow canines.
Reminding yourself and remaining aware at all times that, even though my tolerance threshold is off the charts, I am also still an Akita at the core. I adore playing with other dogs, but do tend to lose my lovely manners and switch my ears totally off during these times. It goes without saying that bitey face is a given and chasies a must, but it’s also best my canine buds understand my party trick is The Body Slam with a side of dropping my shoulder and flopping on top of them.
Although there’s absolutely no malice intended and body language is positive at all times my style usually proves too much for most all small dogs. They also don’t tend to appreciate it when I pick them up and carry them around. What’s up with that?
When it comes to food my love is legendary. Bread may be my kryptonite but I’m also fully capable of opening chip packets and lunch boxes - just because it’s sealed doesn’t mean it’s safe from my determination. If you are silly enough to leave such delights unattended - be it actual food or anything that smells like food has even touched it - let’s just say that The Flash would be impressed with my speed. Somewhat hypocritically I am in possession of excellent manners come dinner/hand feeding time, with the bonus of respecting boundaries when the humans are eating their food.
Although a breed experienced family is preferred if you come with pre-existing large, strong-willed dog experience I dare say I would make the perfect introduction to the glory that is the Akita. To avoid disappointment another friendly, energetic and of equivalent size (female) canine bestie is a non-negotiable must.
Quite singular in my wants ultimately I seek inclusion with a great need to please my people…. conversely I also know when I’ve done wrong and more than familiar with the walk of shame. Oopsie?
