About Shelby
Shelby was the result of a planned joining of dogs from well respected bloodlines. Shelby was surrendered to a private foster carer as owner was moving overseas.
During Shelby's time in care, Shelby has been treated as part of the family and been exposed to free range ducks, chooks, poddy lambs, goats, cats and lots of other dogs with no aggression or undesirable behaviour. She will naturally want to herd the livestock, but has excellent recall. She has also encountered lizards, snakes, echidnas, wombats, deer and kangaroos but will not give chase and is easily called off.
Shelby is better suited to a quieter household and she can be quite protective of her humans and home. For this reason Shelby would be better suited to a single man or woman or couple without children as she can become anxious with lots of comings and goings.
Shelby needs to know that her human is the pack leader and has her back, therefore someone who is able to set very clear boundaries, deserving of her trust and respect.
Shelby is not a high drive dog however can be quite frenetic in her demeanor around humans due to her desire to be loved and her eagerness to please. Shelby just craves to be the centre of someone's universe.
Shelby is extremely affectionate and would love to spend every hour and minute of the day with her human if she could. She likes other dogs, but would probably prefer being an only dog if she was always with her human.
Shelby is used to being penned up, in a run or tied up and is toilet trained for inside. She has also been crated inside and on thr back of a Ute. She walks quite well on lead, will sit and drop and knows what Kennel and Quiet mean. She will bark at visitors or strange noises in the night or if highly excited, but will stop barking on command. She would easily learn more skills as she is very food and pat motivated. Shelby loves the water, the beach, the Bush and playing with her mates. She also enjoys going for rides in the Ute or car and meeting new people and seeing new places.
Shelby has had a little experience with working sheep and will balance up and bring sheep to you, but would need further training and would only be suited to a small concern/ hobby farm where not too much was expected of her. She is keen to help though and once shown what to do, she picks up very quickly.
Shelby would NOT be suited to being left to her own devices for the day.
She would enjoy an active person or couple to take her on runs or interesting walks, taking part in a dog sport or activity and being challenged physically and mentally.
