HISTORY: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Bull Terrier x American Staffordshire Terrier. He is a very neat medium 22kgs.
BREED TRAITS: Bull Terriers love their people and are very affectionate and sensitive. The don't like to be left alone for long periods or can be destructive. They have high energy and love to be busy so need plenty of exercise and playtime. Their high prey drive precludes smaller pet species such as cats. They are trainable but stubborn and not for novice owners.
American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age.
ASSETS: Easygoing, affectionate, very sweet, smart, eager to please, friendly, sensitive and playful are just a few of the words to describe Bo. He's the perfect loyal companion and has a ton of love to give to his new family once he settles in with them. He will melt your heart.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Bo's favourite things include being around his people, walks, cuddles and playtime! He enjoys playing fetch and tug with his toys and will then curl up with you for a cuddle and snooze!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Bo is incredibly loyal, loving and devoted to his people - he just loves to love you and is always happy to see you to make your day so much better. He has a beautiful, gentle nature, is always eager for a game or a run, but is also happy to sit and watch telly with the family.
OTHER ANIMALS: Bo has lived with a family cat and was gentle and respectful - they were the best of friends but the correct introduction is required to ensure harmony. Bo has lived with other dogs and with a proper introduction and supervision, Bo will be their best friend in no time. He has lived happily with a female dog in care.
GENERAL INFO: Bo walks quietly on the lead and is housetrained. He only barks to get attention or at strange noises and he's not a fan of being left alone for long periods of time. Bo does suffer from some separation anxiety which is well treated by medication. He loves to be in the same room as his people and can whine if left to entertain himself outside when his family is home. He will chew and dig if he gets lonely so will need a home where someone is there more often than not to allay his anxiety. Bo is very well behaved in the home and will go to his bed if asked. He knows a few commands and is a quick learner so training would be so beneficial to Bo in growing his confidence and strengthening the pet/owner bond. Bo can be overstimulated by bikes and skateboards and want to chase so must be kept on lead when walking outside.
ESSENTIALS for Bo:
** An active, loving, calm home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take him out and about.
** Bo would enjoy having a youngish doggy friend to keep him company and play with, but his person is his focus, so being an only dog would be fine if his human can spend lots of time with him.
** Bo's confidence would benefit greatly with classes where he can socialise and learn in a safe and structured environment.
** Being an active boy, he needs good daily exercise and mental activity, so would love an active home that is willing to involve him in family activities.
** Bo needs a high fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Bo loves to be with his family so needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there, and to sleep inside at night.
** Bo needs a dog savvy family who, due to his anxiety, will understand initially to take it slowly and gently when meeting new people and doggy friends.
Bo could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 12yrs who can engage and play with him, but also recognize when he needs his own space.
