About Spud
He is a 14 months old, very handsome Staffy crossbreed (possibly with bull mastiff or sharpaie).
Spud is loving and affectionate and very people orientated. He is an excellent companion - enjoying being with his human family (or another large dog companion) - whether just quietly watching you cook dinner from the couch, standing next to you while gardening, or accompanying you on trips in the car.
He is good with older children, but his large size could possibly be very intimidating for smaller children.
He is very calm and quiet around children and has not shown any food aggression.
He has been in a home with cats and small dogs and guinea pigs - although never left unsupervised - and sometimes his playful puppy nature can be too boisterous for the smaller animals who are not as sturdy as Spud would like them to be.
Spud loves fetch and interactive rope games and can play for hours... He loves the beach and is comfortable in water. Spud has had some training and is familiar with toileting routines, crate training, walking on a lead, and basic commands like "sit" and "down".
He has it just begun consistent training recently (as an adult dog) and so he is very much in the early stages currently - but he has shown how much he loves learning and he is very motivated to please his family. He is motivated by the presence and praise of his human, massage and ear rubs, as well as food and interactive games. With his winning combination of natural intelligence and high motivation to learn and be with his human family - Spud has proven himself to be a quick study.
This said, he is very young and still has a lot of puppy exuberance and honestly believes he is still a lap-dog. Given his size, weight (32kg) and strength, this exuberance can lead to problems if it is not prepared for and managed appropriately, and his family will need to be committed to continuing his training after adoption.
Spud struggles with being home alone without any human or canine companionship. For this reason it is preferred that he is adopted into a home that can spend most of the work day with him and/or already has another large dog for companionship and mentoring.
Spud is a loving family dog with a lot to offer a family who have the time to share with him and exercise him and commit to regular training sessions... Quite the couch potato usually... Apologies for the pun of course! 😉
Spud is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and flea and worm treated. His adoption fee is Just $250 and he is currently located in Shiedow Park.
