About Alfie
Alfie is a friendly and affectionate boy who loves lots of attention from his family. He loves nothing more than a cuddle on the couch.
Beagles are bred to be part of a pack so they are well suited to a family home where they will be offered lots of company from their people and a doggie companion. They are known for being tolerant of children and like to be close and involved in their families activities when possible.
Alfie has not been tested with cats.
Alfie has been with other dogs in his foster home and likes to be friends with them all. He will only be suited a home with a desexed doggy companion who can meet his energy levels as he loves to play and can be annoying to other dogs who dont. Being alone is not a good scenario for his breed and he will easily become bored which can lead to him becoming destructive, barking or digging/climbing to get out and find company. Alfie is still a puppy so he is best in a home where he can have a fair amount of interaction so he can be monitored for unwanted puppy behaviours and grow up to be a good doggy citizen. Good safe fencing is a must for this breed.
Regular walks, exercise and stimulation will be very important for Alfie. He loves to be out and about so he can follow his nose and sniff everything he passes. It is strongly recommended that Beagles are always kept on lead when outside a secure area as it is very hard for them to come back to their family when called if they have picked up an interesting scent. He is best walked in a harness and in that scenario can be walked by most family members.
Alfie would benefit greatly from obedience training to help him understand what is expected from him. Beagles can be very strong willed but an advantage to this is they are quite often food driven and therefore happy to listen and learn to receive their reward.
A home where Alfie is allowed to spend lots of time inside as an important family member will be the best opportunity for him to develop into a wonderful, well behaved boy. Alfie is well on the way to being toilet trained.
