About Freddie ~ Silky x ~ On Trial 9/3/16
Introducing Freddie – a pint-sized, shy 2 year old Silky Terrier x. Freddie is a little fellow who is an absolute delight once he gets to know you. When he feels safe with you his friendly, playful personality comes out and he shows you how much of an endearing companion he is. He is so easy going with people he loves and he is a treasure to care for.
Freddie is in foster care with 2 other quiet, gentle dogs – one big and one small and he gets on well with both. He enjoys canine companionship, however he also keeps himself easily entertained playing with soft toys so he’s not an in-your-face type of player. He has only recently been introduced to big dogs and he’s realized that big dogs can be very friendly so he follows his big foster brother Ludo (a senior boxer x staffy) everywhere! He is best matched with an adult dog who is out of puppy stage - he is so tiny that a playful pup could hurt him in play.
Freddie visits the dog park twice a week as part of his socialisation and he's ok when most of the dogs come over for a gentle sniff (even the huge ones) - he isn't confident enough to play yet as he'd much rather stand at his foster mum's feet and watch the other dogs and their owners from this safe place. He adores walking and walks every morning and night. He has impeccable lead manners and needs to be walked on a harness to keep him safe incase he gets startled by loud traffic.
Due to Freddie's shyness he is a special case when it comes to us finding his furever home. It can take multiple meets for Freddie to show any interest in a new person, if he is approached by people he will shy away. He is learning that new people will often offer him a tasty liver treat so he is getting better at meeting others so his new family will need to commit to a few meet and greets and continue his socialisation after adoption. He is quite happy to be carried like a baby so he's enjoyed a few of these types of cuddles when meeting new ladies at the dog park.
Freddie is best suited to a home with no children, or a quiet home with teenagers who will respect his shyness and give him space. He will fear nip little kids if they are loud or boisterous approaching him. He prefers ladies and gents with quiet voices and a quiet easy going lifestyle and a home life that he can settle in to safely without too many visitors.
Freddie is in foster care with 5 dog-friendly cats and he gets on very well with them, he knows they rule the roost! He will occasionally play chasing with them when they zoom around the house, but he is learning quickly that chasing the cats is not allowed. He is fantastic inside the house and is very good with manners and boundaries. He is toilet trained, enjoys his food, sleeps solidly throughout the night curled up with his big foster brother Ludo on the lounge, and very rarely barks unless he is chatting to you in excitement.
Freddie has great recall with the people that he loves - he becomes your shadow and will follow you everywhere when you go out. He's certainly not a bolter - he just wants to be where you are. He is quite content to hang with his quiet doggy friends when you go out - when you get home he jumps up and squeals in delight to see you. This little guy is such a sweetheart and will shower you with love.

(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
