About Tia
A delightful, affectionate and playful character who is intelligent and entertaining.
Other dogs
Fine with other dogs - both male and female. She is well socialised.
Cats
Yes. She has previously been fine but as she has not had direct contact in the last few years she would need to be reintroduced with supervision.
Other animals
She would not be suitable unsupervised around farm animals because while she is not overtly aggressive, she will play and cause unintentional harm.
Kids
Yes but Tia might accidentally knock one over. Tia is very friendly and loves a homecoming. She has trouble settling down and will continue to jump up for a while if not checked. We recommend teenagers and older.
Size
Approx 25 kgs
Exercise requirements
Medium. Tia needs exercise every day and also enjoys playtime at home. Mental stimulation is also a must because Tia is extremely intelligent and if she becomes bored is likely to try and find a way out to find something more interesting to do. Tia is no fool. She would probably be a good candidate for agility training.
She loves to play with other dogs and is currently living with her brother, Jaspa. They are entertaining to watch in the back yard playing catch and roly-poly. Jaspa is also available for adoption but they can be separated.
How is your dog on a lead?
Tia is used to a halite harness and is usually well behaved.
How is the dog off the lead?
Tia is unlikely to go too far but won’t necessarily come back when called. You will need to work on her re-call as part of her on-going training.
Escape artist?
Tia needs a secure yard. If you persistently ignore her, deprive her of exercise and/or mental stimulation she will try and get out and won’t stay close to home. Normal colour bond fencing right to the bottom should be fine as long as she is not bored. She may climb mesh or wire fencing. The trick is simply not to have a dull and stodgy home that will encourage her to leave. Engage her and she will be happy be stay home and be an adoring companion.
Nuisance barker?
No
Toilet trained
No, as she has never been inside - but she is smart and can learn quickly.
Tolerance to being alone
Tia should be fine once she is in an environment that motivates her to stay home. Tia is extremely smart and is not a fool. If you treat her like a dunderhead she will seek adventures elsewhere. She is not unruly or unreasonable. Give it a little thought and she will stay gladly.
Likes
Water and swimming - see attached video. She also loves playing with other dogs and riding in the back of a ute.
Dislikes
Thunder and Lightning. Being ignored for long periods of time or being treated like a pea-brain knucklehead.
Ideal home
Large yard or even acreage but not rural properties unless you can keep her away from playing with other farm animals. You will need to be an active person and also have experience with the breed so as to continue with her training. Tia is extremely intelligent and hence, needs physical and mental stimulation. Preference will be given to a home that can adopt Tia and her brother, Jaspa. However, they can be separated.
Generally
Tia’s zest for life and vibrancy is contagious. She is extremely intelligent and will need to be mentally challenged to avoid boredom other wise she may try to slip away to find something more interesting to do. Tia loves to play with other dogs and while it is not overly rough, she can be boisterous. She does like human attention too and will greet you with vocal enthusiasm – talking not barking.
Tia will take a belly scratch all day long. Both dogs ADORE water and will put their heads right under to retrieve stones and play. They have been to the beach a few times and enjoyed it. Tia is super smart, quick and would probably suit agility training.
If you adopt Tia and Jaspa together the adoption fees are reduced by 50%. However, they can be separated..
Adoption details
1) Read the dog's profile
2) Complete the expression of Interest form
http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
3) Speak to the carer and arrange a meeting
4) House assessment is completed
5) Adoption is completed with a minimum 2 week cooling off period (similar to a trial but with legal protection)
We strongly recommend you read the dogs' profile carefully as everything we know about the dog/s is listed.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner/s. It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog/s.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we do not usually allow trials.
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
