About Gambino
π¨ URGENT FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT NEEDED FOR GAMBINO π¨
ππ GAMBINO β ALSO KNOWN AS CHICH ππ
Gambino is being surrendered through no fault of his own, and we urgently need a caring home where this loving boy can begin his next chapter. π‘πΎ
This handsome 1-year-old English Staffy x Amstaff is a typical affectionate, Velcro Staffy who loves companionship. He is clever, energetic and full of love, and thrives on routine and time with his people. π
π©Ί A LITTLE EXTRA CARE
Gambino needs a carer willing to work with us while we continue investigating some ongoing health concerns with our vet.
πΎ He has experienced gastrointestinal issues and loose stools since late May/early June.
πΎ He has some bald patches that will also need veterinary assessment.
πΎ He has a reported blocked tear duct/allergies, with his eyes currently needing daily cleaning with saline.
πΎ He is vaccinated and microchipped, and will be desexed by the rescue once in care.
We will continue arranging his veterinary care β he needs a loving home to support him along the way. π
π§ A CLEVER BOY WHO LOVES TO LEARN
Gambino is highly food motivated and enjoys treat-based training! He knows βsitβ, βstayβ and βgoβ, comes when called, and is familiar with cues including βthis wayβ, βfind itβ, βgentleβ and βgo toiletβ.
He enjoys walks, exploring new smells and putting that busy nose to work. βFind itβ games and sniffing can help redirect his attention when he becomes excited. ππΏ
πΎ HIS FAVOURITE THINGS
π Being close to his people
𦴠Chewing flavoured toy bones and durable chew toys
πΎ Sniffy walks and exploring
πͺ’ A good game of tug
π Learning in exchange for tasty treats!
Soft or stuffed toys donβt tend to last long with Gambino, so sturdy toys are a must! π€
π‘ LIFE AT HOME
β
Toilet trained
β
Walks well on a collar and lead
β
Travels well in the car with an appropriate restraint
β
Reportedly settles outside when his family is away and has not been destructive
β
No known food resource guarding
Gambino can get very excited when visitors arrive and may jump up or tug at clothing to say hello. He needs patient, consistent, reward-based guidance to help him practise calmer greetings.
He can also bark at lawnmowers, the vacuum and passing cars on walks, so a carer willing to help him build confidence and redirect his attention would be ideal.
π THE RIGHT HOME FOR GAMBINO
Gambino would best suit adults or a family with older teenagers, ideally with an understanding of Staffy breeds and their needs.
He hasnβt had much exposure to young children or babies, so he isnβt currently assessed as suitable for a home with little ones.
πΆ He previously enjoyed puppy school and playing with other dogs. His more recent interactions have been limited due to his gastrointestinal issues. He has reportedly done well with dogs his size and larger, but his current suitability with smaller dogs is uncertain. Any resident dogs would need a carefully managed introduction.
π± Untested with cats.
Gambino is uncomfortable having his face and ears touched and dislikes grooming and nail clipping. He needs gentle handling, respect for his boundaries and gradual, positive training to help him feel more comfortable.
Underneath all that enthusiastic Staffy energy is a loving young boy who wants companionship, routine and someone in his corner. Can you be that person? π₯Ίπ
π° Adoption fee: $700 β applies if adopting.
