Meet Buddy — a gentle giant with a heart as big as his paws. 🐾❤️

Buddy is a 9-year-old American Bulldog who has recently found himself looking for a new beginning after sadly losing the person he loved most. Having spent his entire life with his dad, Buddy suddenly found himself alone and, through no fault of his own, ended up in the pound. Despite everything he has been through, Buddy remains one of the sweetest, most loving dogs you could ever hope to meet.

Weighing around 38kg, Buddy is a big boy with an even bigger heart. He’s recently been desexed and is now ready to find a forever family who can give him the comfort, stability and love he deserves in his golden years.

Buddy is the definition of easy-going. He is calm, gentle and incredibly loyal. He’s perfectly happy to relax on his own bed, nap in the living room, or quietly snooze away the day while you go about your routine. When you come home, he’ll greet you with a wagging tail, a happy smile and his adorable white-socked paw offered for a handshake.

Despite being partially blind due to blocked tear ducts and dry eyes, Buddy navigates life beautifully. His condition is easily managed with regular eye cleaning and eye drops, and it doesn’t stop him enjoying everything life has to offer.

Buddy enjoys his daily walks and loves stopping to sniff the world around him. While he’s generally relaxed, don’t let his age fool you — he still gets excited when it’s time for an adventure and enjoys getting out and about with his people. He also loves sticking his head out the car window to feel the breeze on his face.

Buddy is fully house trained and has lovely manners around food. He patiently waits for his meals, doesn’t beg while you eat, and is generally a very respectful house guest.

Following a recent dog assessment, Buddy unfortunately displayed behaviours that indicate he is not comfortable around other dogs. For this reason, he is looking for a home where he can be the only dog, allowing him to relax and enjoy life without the stress of sharing his space.

Buddy has shown positive signs around cats and, with slow, careful introductions, we believe he could happily live with a cat.

Due to his size and strength, Buddy will need an owner who is confident handling large, powerful dogs. He walks beautifully on lead and is a calm, enjoyable walking companion, only tending to pull when he comes across other dogs (and occasionally people if he becomes excited). The rest of the time he strolls calmly by your side, happily stopping to sniff and explore his surroundings. Continuing his lead training around distractions will help build on the lovely lead manners he already has. We feel he would particularly benefit from a male handler who can confidently continue his training and provide clear, consistent guidance.

Buddy isn’t destructive, doesn’t chew belongings, and is happiest simply spending time near his people. He has shown no signs of anxiety and settles well in the home, making him a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal best friend.

His ideal home would be one where he can enjoy a comfortable bed, leisurely walks, plenty of affection and a family who appreciates the joy of sharing life with a mature dog. In return, Buddy will offer unwavering loyalty, gentle companionship and endless love.

After losing everything he knew, Buddy deserves a second chance at happiness.
