Adoption information
About Liquorice
Liquorice is a desexed female available for adoption in Burwood (Inner East, VIC).
Liquorice is the kind of cat who reads a room. She notices when the energy shifts, and she has a way of showing up beside you at exactly the right moment, a gentle head bump, a warm presence settling nearby, quietly letting you know she is there.
She is being rehomed alongside her bonded sister, Fox, and the two will be adopted together.
She is smart, independent, and a little selective, but the people she choose to be close to feel it. With familiar people she is genuinely affectionate on her own terms: sitting near you, brushing past your leg, occasionally deciding your lap is exactly where she needs to be.
With new people she takes her time. She will not hide, but she will assess. She watches, decides you seem alright, and then comes over for a scratch when she is ready. Once she warms up, she warms up properly.
A little about Liquorice:
🐾 She is emotionally perceptive and has a knack for turning up when you need her most
🐾 Her favourite things are soft surfaces, boxes, and a good head and whisker scratch
🐾 Liquorice is the more dominant of the two sisters, and her housemate Fox is perfectly happy with this arrangement
🐾 She is bonded to her sister Fox, who is also listed with Home2Home and will be adopted alongside her
🐾 Liquorice has her own social schedule and is happy to let you know when she has had enough company for the day. It is one of the things that makes her distinctly herself.
A typical day for Liquorice involves finding the best soft surface in the house and claiming it, coming to you when she feels like company, eating, and occasionally chasing Fox around before settling in for another nap. She is low-maintenance in the best possible way.
Liquorice shows affection through head bumps and purring, through parking herself nearby and brushing her head against your leg as she walks past. She has her own preferences about closeness and will let you know when she has had enough, which most people who love cats find endearing rather than off-putting.
She would flourish in a calm, quiet home without dogs. She is well suited to indoor living and would be equally content in an apartment or a house, as long as the pace is steady and the people around her are not too loud or too busy.
Her new guardians will be set up with everything they need at handover, including her specialised diet, transition support recommendations, and full care notes for their veterinary team.
Picture a quiet afternoon with Liquorice stretched across the couch, one eye open, monitoring the situation. She will move closer when she is ready. That is Liquorice on a good day, and there are a lot of good days with this girl.
The right person for Liquorice is someone who enjoys a cat with character, one who comes to you on her own terms and makes it feel like something you have earned.
FAQ
Does she have to be adopted with another cat?
Yes, Liquorice is bonded to her sister Fox, who is also listed with Home2Home. They will be adopted together, and their new guardian will be set up with everything they need for both girls.
Is she affectionate?
Yes, in her own way. Liquorice is not a lap cat in the traditional sense, but she is genuinely warm: head bumps, sitting nearby, showing up when you are having a hard day. It is quieter than some cats, and it is real.
How does she go with new people?
She holds her ground and takes her time. She will not hide, but she will assess the situation first. Once she decides you are worth approaching, you will get head bumps and the full treatment.
Is she a good fit for a quieter household?
She is an excellent fit. Liquorice is calm, self-contained, and genuinely easy to live with. She suits a steady household where she can move at her own pace and come to people when she chooses.
Medical notes
Liquorice is in good general health. To support her through the move, we recommend a short course of Fortiflora probiotic and lysine, as well as Gabapentin to help her settle comfortably. Gabapentin is a short-term medication that helps cats settle comfortably into a new environment. Liquorice is also a cat flu virus carrier, which is common in cats and nothing to be concerned about. Any mild cold-like symptoms during the transition are most likely viral and generally resolve with rest and some extra TLC. Her complete care notes will be shared with her new guardian and veterinary team at handover.
Adoption details
When enquiring about a pet listed with Home2Home, your enquiry goes directly to the pet’s guardian—the person who knows them best!
From here, the guardian will be in touch to learn more about you and chat with you about their pet. It’s a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the pet, including its likes and dislikes, needs, and how it may fit into your lifestyle and family.
If your home and lifestyle match the pet's needs, the next step will be arranging a meet-and-greet to make sure everyone is happy to proceed with a formal adoption.
Following the adoption, change of ownership paperwork will be completed, and proof of vaccination, microchipping, and desexing (if applicable, as indicated on the listing) will be provided.
All pets adopted through Home2Home will require an adoption contract to be signed and an adoption fee to be paid. The pet’s guardian will complete the adoption contract with you and provide a link to PetRescue’s secure payment portal for completing the adoption fee payment.
Home2Home currently operates a ‘pay what you choose’ system for cat adoption fees. This means that adopters will be able to choose an adoption fee amount that is suitable for them. All adoption fees are used to support PetRescue's life-saving programs, including Home2Home.
