About Sara
🐾 Sara – Blue Merle Toy Parti Poodle (3 years)
Bonded Pair – Must Be Adopted with Cleo
Cleo's profile --> https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/1168491
Sara is a gentle, soulful little girl who has quietly blossomed into a confident, affectionate companion after a heartbreaking start to life.
Sara and her sister Cleo were sold as puppies, returned within their first year when their family had a baby, and then passed onto a puppy farm where they were shut off from the world, and deprived of normal life experiences.
When they came into rescue, they were extremely timid, heavily matted, and frightened. Shortly after arriving in foster care, Sara surprised us with a pregnancy and went on to raise six beautiful puppies. With the loving support of her sister Cleo and foster sister Georgie, Sara proved to be an incredibly nurturing and devoted mum. All of her puppies have now found their forever homes — and it’s finally Sara’s turn.
Sara is affectionate, calm, and deeply bonded to her people. She loves sleeping on the bed, morning cuddles, and following foster mum around once the day begins. She enjoys lying at the top of the outdoor steps watching the world go by, soaking up the sights and sunshine. Sara adores her walks, car rides, and adventures — the sound of her harness now sends her running with excitement.
She has learned to trust humans and will happily greet strangers with gentle affection, though she can still be shy if her trusted person isn’t nearby. Sara is confident with other dogs and lives harmoniously with her sister Cleo, foster sister Georgie (a Staghound), and our resident senior cat, Ash. She is particularly comfortable around Ash and greets her calmly.
Sara enjoys exploring new environments and has been on outings to the beach, parks, walking tracks, Bunnings and Petbarn. She is happy to have a paddle at the beach and creeks, and has assisted swims in the pool on hot days. Not sure she approves though :)
On walks, Sara is the more confident of the two and loves to follow her nose, often leading the way with curiosity and enthusiasm. She enjoys exploring new scents and environments and takes great joy in being out and about. Her recall is excellent in familiar off-lead areas, though she should remain on lead until a strong bond and trust are built with her new family.
Sara is fully toilet trained, uses pee pads overnight if needed, and is clean in the house when given the opportunity to toilet outside late at night and first thing in the morning. Regular access to the outdoors for toileting throughout the day would be the best to set them up for success. If you have a dog door, the girls will need training - I have seen Sara using the cat door, so I'm sure with time they can learn to use a dog door
Sara eats a natural raw and cooked diet and particularly loves raw chicken necks, which are great for her teeth. She has no food guarding issues and shares beautifully with Cleo and Georgie
The girls love to chew on a meaty bone once or twice a week, smaller cuts of lamb neck or beef bones and ribs are the best. it is good for their teeth and mental stimulation
Their favourite treats are duck and chicken jerky and favourite chews - bully bites, beef tubes (trachea) and pigs ear strips
Sara would thrive in a calm, loving home where her people are home more often than not, with a secure yard for toileting, pottering, and play. Apartment living would not suit her. She will need patience, continued confidence-building, and regular grooming every 4–6 weeks.
Sara is desexed, vaccinated, heartworm treated, flea and wormed, and in excellent health.
💛 Sara is still on her confidence journey. While she now enjoys affection and will come up for pats, she may briefly cower when approached, particularly by new people. This is a learned response from her past and continues to soften with time, patience, and gentle handling. Sara will thrive with adopters who understand shy dogs, are happy to let her set the pace, and value trust-building as part of the bond they create together.
💛 About adopting me
Sara and Cleo are very special girls - they are a bonded pair and will only be rehomed together. They have been through so much side-by-side and have grown into confident, loving girls who bring enormous joy to everyone they meet. They deserve a forever home that understands their journey, continues their confidence-building, and gives them the love and security they have waited their whole lives for. The girls have had a taste of what life can be — and they are ready for more. So a home where they can continue their adventures, car rides and exploring their new world would be ideal.
