About Cleo
🐾 Cleo – Blue Merle Toy Parti Poodle (3 years)
Bonded Pair – Must Be Adopted with Sara
Sara's profile --> https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/1168546
Cleo is a sweet, sensitive little soul with a gentle nature and a quiet confidence that continues to grow every day.
Like her sister Sara, Cleo had a difficult beginning — they were sold as puppies, returned within their first year when their family had a baby, and then sent to a puppy farm where they were shut off from the world, and deprived of normal life experiences. When they came into rescue, they were extremely timid, heavily matted, and frightened. Today, she is a joyful girl who loves her routines, her people, and most of all, her sister.
Cleo's rehabilitation journey has been remarkable. Cleo was the more timid of the two, but with time she has come out of her shell craving attention and affection from her foster mum. Once running away from her harness, she now dances with joy at the sound of the harness and leads coming out.
Cleo loves sleeping in and often stays tucked up in bed a little longer while Sara follows foster mum to make her coffee. Cleo adores bedtime cuddles with foster mum before retreating to her own bed for the night, although she sometimes joins us on the bed until morning. She loves sunny spots where she can relax and soak up the warmth.
Cleo is playful and loves running and playing in the yard with Sara. The girls play beautifully together and share a deep bond — they look to each other for reassurance and joy but as they grow more confident they love the comfort and affection from their humans.
Cleo currenlty lives with 2 dogs and a cat. Georgie, her fosters sister (a Staghound), Sara her sister and Ash, our resident senior cat. They all live harmoniously together. She is a little more cautious around the Ash than Sara, politely giving her extra space, but her confidence continues to grow around Ash. Cleo is friendly with other dogs and has become much more confident with controlled, positive introductions. Larger dogs can still make her unsure, but she is brave and willing.
Cleo enjoys walks, car rides, and adventures, and her confidence in new environments has grown enormously. She has been on outings to beaches, parks, lakes, walking tracks, Bunnings and Petbarn. She is learning that the world is a safe and exciting place. She is happy to have a paddle at the beach, lakes and creeks, and has assisted swims in the pool on hot days. Not sure she approves though :)
Cleo is the more sensitive sister and, whether on lead or in off-lead areas, she chooses to stay close to her trusted person. She finds comfort in staying nearby while she builds confidence, checking in often and taking reassurance from that connection. Her recall is excellent in familiar environments, though she should not be off-lead until a strong bond and trust are established with her new family.
Cleo is fully toilet trained, uses pee pads overnight if needed, and has excellent house manners. Regular access to the outdoors for toileting would be the best to set them up for success. If you have a dog door, the girls will need training - I have seen Sara using the cat door, so I'm sure with time they can learn to use a dog door
She eats a natural raw and cooked diet and absolutely loves raw chicken necks, along with beef, kangaroo, venison, and cooked chicken. She has no resource guarding issues and happily shares food and chews with Sara and Georgie
The girls love to chew on a meaty bone once or twice a week, smaller cuts of lamb neck or beef bones and ribs are the best. it is good for their teeth and mental stimulation
Their favourite treats are duck and chicken jerky and favourite chews - bully bites, beef tubes (trachea) and pigs ear strips
Cleo is affectionate, loving, and still a little shy with new people when her foster mum isn’t present. She will need patience, understanding, and time to build trust — but once she does, her affection is deeply rewarding.
Cleo is desexed, vaccinated, heartworm treated, flea and wormed, healthy, and will need regular grooming every 4–6 weeks.
💛 Cleo is still on her confidence journey. While she now enjoys affection and will come up for pats, she may briefly cower when approached, particularly by new people. This is a learned response from her past and continues to soften with time, patience, and gentle handling. Cleo will thrive with adopters who understand shy dogs, are happy to let her set the pace, and value trust-building as part of the bond they create together.
💛 Cleo and Sara are very special girls - they are a bonded pair and will only be rehomed together. They have been through so much side-by-side and have grown into confident, loving girls who bring enormous joy to everyone they meet. They deserve a forever home that understands their journey, continues their confidence-building, and gives them the love and security they have waited their whole lives for
The girls have had a taste of what life can be — and they are ready for more. So a home where they can continue their adventures, car rides and exploring their new world would be ideal.
