About Floyd
💚 Floyd — Our Gentle Giant Ready for His New Beginning
If ever there was a dog who deserved a soft landing, it’s Floyd. After everything he’s lived through, this big-hearted boy continues to meet the world with kindness, bravery, and a quietly hopeful soul. Day by day, he’s learning, blooming, and discovering what it means to feel safe — and now, his fresh start feels beautifully within reach. ✨
👀 A big, dog-friendly lad with oceans of love to give
👀 Bursting with personality and gentle charm
👀 A soulful giant searching for a human who’ll treasure him for life
💫 Meet Floyd
🐾 Age: 3 years
🐾 Breed: Great Dane mix
🐾 Sex: Male
🐾 Dog Friendly: Yes — can live with another calm, well-matched dog
🐾 Cat Friendly: No
🐾 Kids: Best suited to teens 14+ or giant-dog-savvy households
🐾 Training: Halti trained, house trained, learning commands
🐾 Personality, Routine & Quirks
Floyd is a big, soft soul wrapped in an even bigger body. He loves his walks — tail helicopter fully engaged — but don’t expect a marathon partner. Once he decides he’s done, he’ll dramatically plop himself down and announce that this exact patch of earth is now his official resting spot. 🤣
He truly thrives on routine, ongoing training, and consistent expectations. Clear daily rituals help Floyd feel secure and confident, particularly around:
• Eating procedures
• Calm entry into the house
• Structured walking expectations
Thanks to routine, stability, and regularity, Floyd is now calmer more often, more settled in his body, and much more relaxed overall. His house entry has improved enormously as his confidence and understanding have grown.
When it comes to walks, Floyd is delightfully particular. He adores his familiar walking block — around 1.5km / 20 minutes — and happily cruises along. Change the route, though? The brakes go on immediately. 🤣
Some days, that simply means doing the same block two or three times instead — and Floyd is perfectly content with that arrangement.
Floyd learns best through gentle leadership, praise, affection, and consistency. He already knows sit, stay, and back, and absolutely melts every time he hears, “good boy.”
🏡 Home Life & Independence
Floyd loves being close to his people and soaks up affection like sunshine. But he’s also wonderfully content being left home alone:
• No destruction
• No escaping
• No barking or whining
• No fence jumping
• No drama — just naps and dreams 🌙
🦴 Important Notes
Floyd has previously shown some guarding of high-value food items — completely understandable given his past. With structure, routine, and sensible management, this behaviour is no longer being seen. Continued awareness and good habits are recommended.
Floyd is friendly with other dogs and can live with another dog, provided they are calm, respectful, and well matched. He can occasionally be a little overenthusiastic and benefits from clear boundaries and guidance when sharing space with canine companions.
💙 His Ideal Home
Floyd dreams of a home where he can sprawl beside you, snore softly, and finally feel like he belongs.
He would thrive with:
• 2–3 confident adult humans
• Clear, calm leadership and consistent expectations
• Ongoing training and structure
• A secure yard with space to play, potter, and dig
• A few walks each day to help manage bursts of energy
• A household where he knows he’s not running the show (he’s happy being #2 or #3 in the pecking order!)
With the right guidance, Floyd is wonderfully versatile — equally content lounging the day away or joining in on gentle adventures as his confidence continues to grow.
💤 What Floyd Loves Most
• Cuddles & scratches
• Snoozing at your feet
• Being told he’s a “good boy”
• Short walks with big enthusiasm
• Toys, playtime, and outdoor space
• Simply being close to his humans
Floyd has carried a heavy past, but his future is wide open — bright, hopeful, and waiting for the right person (or family) to step forward and love him the way he’s always deserved. 💚✨
