About Gary
If you’re looking for the ultimate laid-back companion, Gary is your guy.
During the day, Gary is the definition of chilled. He’s happiest snoozing, snacking and curling up close to his humans. He doesn’t just want to be near you, he wants to be WITH you. Whether that’s stretched out by your side, on your lap or gently reaching out a paw to remind you he’s there (which is impossibly adorable).
When visitors come by, Gary’s social side shines. He greets strangers like old friends, happily jumping up for pats and affection as though he’s known them forever. He’s not shy about what he wants either. He’ll headbutt you for attention or even open a door to track you down if you’re taking too long.
While snoozing is his main pastime, Gary has a playful streak once he’s recharged. He’s just as content to bat toys around on his own as he is to engage in a play session with you. He really is the perfect mix of affectionate, easygoing, and fun.
Gary’s Journey 🐾
When Gary first came into care, he was in rough shape – battling a painful flea allergy that resulted in several nasty open wounds as well as the flu. He’s also FIV+ (a very manageable condition that doesn’t stop him from living a long, happy life). Since being in our care, he has also had a dental procedure so his teeth are in tip-top shape. Despite all this, Gary has never lost his trust in people. His resilience and gentle nature have shone through since day one, and with the care he’s received, he’s already blossoming into the healthy, happy cat he was always meant to be.
The Perfect Home 🏡
Gary would suit just about any household thanks to his adaptable, affectionate personality. He’ll thrive in a home where he’s loved, included and given plenty of time for both naps and cuddles. In return, he’ll give you endless affection, companionship and headbutts.
Medical notes
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) Positive
Gary has tested positive to Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), which might sound scary, but it truly isn't. It just means Gary has a slightly weaker immune system, so if they get a sniffle, it's better to take them straight to the vet rather than adopting a 'wait and see' approach. Gary can live happily with other cats that do not have FIV, therefore there is very minimal risk to any of the other cats in the household.
There is a lot of misinformation about FIV, so please ask us any questions you have, talk to your preferred/trusted vet and do your own research from reliable sources.
Dental Surgery Performed
Gary had dental disease upon arriving at OOTW. As this condition was negatively impacting his welfare, a dental scale and polish as well as any necessary extractions have been performed under general anesthesia.

Adoption details
All animals adopted through Out of the Woods Rescue are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea/worm treated and health-checked. We aim to match each animal with a home that suits their needs and personality.
Here’s how our adoption process works:
Submit an application – This helps us get to know you, your household and what you're looking for in a pet.
Phone chat – If your application looks like a potential fit, one of our team members will contact you for a casual phone conversation to answer questions and discuss the animal in more detail.
Meet and greet – You’ll meet the animal in their foster home or another agreed location. If everyone agrees it’s a good match, we can proceed to adoption.
Adoption paperwork and payment – Our adoption fees cover desexing, microchipping, vaccination and parasite treatment.
Once adopted, the animal becomes part of your family. We're still here for post-adoption support if you ever need any help.
We’re committed to ethical adoptions and reserve the right to decline applications if we feel the match isn’t in the best interest of the animal.
