About Winston
Winston loves everyone and everyone loves him.
Winston would like the following in his new home.
- People home often and are looking for a dog to take with them, to markets cafes etc.
- definitely be inside when someone is home and to be able to follow you around.
- Another desexed dog to keep him company when his people are not home.
- His tail is like a whip and may hurt young children so no young children living in the home.
- no food or rubbish left out as he will eat it.
Winston likes to be with you whatever you do. He follows you around the house looking up at you, trotting right beside you. He does the washing with you, is in the bathroom with you, likes to cook with you, walks up the stairs with you...you get the idea. He would happily be patted all day long and will lean on you. He didn't know how to play when he came to us but he's getting more fun everyday - he will run up and down the hallway with his toys, likes to play tug of war with a human or dog companion and will fetch something for a while until it gets boring. He has brief periods of energy then is happy to cuddle up on the couch or lie on his mat and work from home with you.
He's a confident dog but has shown no signs of aggression towards other dogs. He occasionally gets spooked while walking but most of the time is confident and happy outside and inside. He walks really well on the lead, most of the time right alongside you unless something is very exciting when he may pull. He's a tall dog but has a slight frame so doesn't pull hard on the lead. Our 12 year old can safely walk him with no issues. His recall is great indoors and in the yard but we haven't tested him offlead. He may have some sighthound traits...he will run to chase birds in the backyard although doesn't spend too much time with the chickens. He will chase the cats if left unchecked but stops as soon as he's reminded that it's bad manners. He's very food motivated and has been easy to train.
If taken outside regularly he is 100% toilet trained, only accidents have been when we have forgotten to take him outside or not noticed the cues.
He loves all people he meets and is not reactive at all. He is big with a whippy tail and can mouth when excited so he'd be better in a family with older kids. We're working on the mouthing.
He definitely needs to be in a family who will include him in their life, sleep indoors and spend most of the time with them. He is ok being left outside with some toys to keep him entertained (kongs, bones etc). He really enjoys playing with Charlie (our 3yo wolfound x) but I think human companionship is the main priority.
He's fine in the car - still needs to be lifted in but is happy once there. Since he's been with us he's learnt to sit, sit and wait for his food, come when called. He sleeps on a mat in our bedroom with the other dogs. He is a MASSIVE pig and cannot be left unsupervised with any food on a table or bench (he'll only sneak it when you're not there) - he's eaten a whole tub of butter, the chicken's scraps, emptied the recycling bin and licked everything clean.
The breed is to the best of our knowledge from the information we've been given.

Adoption details
Please note- we do not work on a first in best dressed basis, we assess all applications to choose the home that we believe will best match the animal.
If you believe one of our animals would be a good match for your home please send us a detailed email us with some information about the people and any other animals in your home as well as the type of lifestyle you can offer a new rescue pet.
We are volunteerswho run the rescue around families, paid employment and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require you to travel to meet the animal you are looking to adopt. For dog adoptions, any other dogs in your home musr attend the meet and greet, this enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
We reserve the right to refuse the adoption if we don't believe it's a good match for our animals.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care or we will assist you in finding them a suitable new home, this is a condition thst you agree to when signing our Adoption Agreement.
