About Lizzie
Lizzie is a quite small Terrier mix (12kg, mid-calf height, already fully grown) pup that hasn't learnt much in her formative months and, is now, starting to pick up the cues for proper behaviour. We're not talking about sits and stays, which she learned rather quickly, but rather the "how to dog". She spent months in a shelter environment, medicated to keep calm and where the only contact with other dogs was through fencing. That put a damper on figuring out the "how to's" of life. She didn't get much contact with people either, so is now trying to figure out what the best ways are.
That said, she is the sweetest dog for those who work hard to deserve her affections by means of strong innate leadership by all her humans. Once she respects you, she will lay her life for you, but she will not give you the time of the day until then.
We adore 'Dog Lovers' but for Lizzie, you have to instead be a loving 'Dog Owner' with a good foundation of balanced training. With a treat, you will not get far, but with boot camp, the sky is the limit! NILIF (Nothing In Life Is Free) is the best method to see Lizzie thrive and her new humans need to be willing to say 'NO' and not give in when commands need repeating until complied.
Lizzie is an active pup that does not need to run around, but rather have her humans exercising her as a job. She needs to perform tasks and gets praise when doing it right. Most of her training will be done indoors, so a home with a yard is a must! Structured long daily walks are your bread and butter and a treadmill would be very beneficial.
Lizzie is great with cats who are born-leaders (as most are) and accepts their guidance without fail. She is great with very confident dogs that diffuse situations without confrontation. A dog park is very unlikely to ever be suitable for her temperament and a low dog traffic neighbourhood will allow you to do more outdoors.
If you’ve got what it takes and want to feel the what rescue means, Lizzie will be the dog for you. Please fill out the form bellow:
