A day at BARC: behind the scenes of PetRescue x Lyka and the pets who stole our hearts!

On Saturday 11 April, Better Read Than Dead in Newtown hosted the launch of Rusty is Rescued, a new children’s book by Tim Brown that opens the door to important conversations about rescue pets, safe interactions and reading pet body language.
The launch brought together families, young readers, rescue pet supporters, PetRescue (of course!) and one very stylish doggo, Fern, who arrived with the most fabulous pink nails we have ever seen.
The afternoon started with storytime, with the youngest guests settling in quickly and tuning right into Rusty’s story. From there, Tim guided the room through a game on reading pet body language, debuted two original jingles about filling water bowls and approaching dogs safely, then opened up a bigger interactive conversation with the adults about rescue pets, the incredible work of the rescue sector and why adoption is the best option.
PetRescue Partner Coordinator Merel took the mic to share PetRescue’s latest updates, tips for finding your rescue match and of course, a proper celebration of Rusty’s rise to fame.

The response from the community was awesome! Tim sold out of every hardback copy in the store, and the raffle raised $315, which was generously donated to PetRescue to help rescue pets find loving homes. And through it all, Fern wandered the room like the glamorous ambassador she is.
Events like this help create space for positive conversations about rescue pets and pet guardianship. And Rusty’s just getting started!
Thank you to Tim, to everyone who came, and to Better Read Than Dead for a truly wonderful afternoon. And to Fern - for being fabulously adorable! 💚

Rusty is Rescued will be in bookstores nationwide in just a few weeks.
